M2 Dct or M2 6mt ?

Im getting an M2. Ive always had manual transmission cars. Now for the 1st time im thinking of going Dct.
Im torn though, I have many reasons why i want the DCt buti have many reasons why i want the manual.
- Pros for Dct- (counter arguments in brackets)
- its faster (this is an issue when you racing for instance a G7R) (but ive had my M235i for 2 years and ive had maybe 3 races in 2 years, I dont go "racing"as it were)
- in traffic its a far easier drive. (but ive done 17k on my M235i in 2 years, i have a diesel a4 for work duty)
-Launch control
-blaaps on up shifts
-better fuel economy (i dont give a sh#t about fuel economy i have a company petrol card)
- far better resale
- the bint can drive it more easily when we go out and ive had one too many to drink. ( i have a goodfellas membership, so no need for anyone to drive)
- Most important factor is i can get a car when they launch. dealership reckons they will get at least 2 M2's on launch and im 2nd on the list. but they reckon almost 100% of launch cars will be Dct. if i want manual ill have to wait.

downfall on Dct
- I drove an M4 dct with Akra pipes this morning and i was expecting it to be an event. it wasnt. I felt very uninvolved. i had a shit load more fun on my way there in my manual M235i. theres something about preparing to snap into 2nd when it gets to the top of the revs and then again into 3rd and then blipping it back into 2nd to take a gap or sharp bend. isnt that what M cars are about?

the pros on Manual
- that feeling of being connected. its hard to describe to people that arent manual enthusiasts. (if all you looking for is being the fastest then you wont be worried about this, but i dont really race) however i still want the car to reach its full potential. here in lies my problem.

I realize it probably seems that I'm set on manual but i want one of the 1st cars and I want it to be quick, which Dct helps with immensely.

So what does the world of BMW enthusiasts think?
just a comment of Manual or Dct doesnt help any 10 year old could tell me that.
I would like to know why, and have you driven Mcars in manual? and in dct?
why then if you had a bar to spend on a car would you go either route?
think about it as if you were walking into the dealership.
I always said I would always get a manual but now thats its my money and Im in the situation i found myself 2nd guessing that. resale is a big one, SA is auto crazy on premium cars, less than 1 in 10 M4s in SA are manuals. so reselling is an issue, I only keep cars for 2 years max..

I guess in your situation, i would lean towards Manual as its sounds like the M2 wont be a daily drive but more of a Weekend hooning machine?

How much time would you spend in the car? a 5km trip during peak hours can be an hour of stop/go traffic.

My thoughts. Go manual. Ive seen some reviews of both DCT and Manual and it seems that, like in your case, you would enjoy the car much more in manual. Maybe also drive a dct version of your m235i if you havent already. The M4's character is very different to that of the M2 (especially considering the weight and shorter wheel base).

Enjoy!

I live in Waterkloof in Pta and work next to Loftus so max 15 minutes in peak traffic.
joys of not living in JHB

Reading your write up clearly shows that you are those drivers that want to be connected with the car...

DCT might lack that...(M4 experience you had)

Wait a bit for that manual...

it's not like you driving a slouch now (M235I)

Manual.... If I'm not mistaken it has the same auto rev matching when downshifting like the manual M3/M4's. This feature is very cool if you have the option to drive a manual M3/4 try it out!

A colleague of mine traded in his M5 for a Manual M3, besides the fact that he said the M5 was too big he drove a manual M3 and said it was a lot more entertaining than a DCT.

On a side note manufacturers are catering for enthusiasts now. Porsche has released a 911R - GT3RS motor with manual transmission.

Thanks for the comments so far everyone, appreciate the input! It really seems like it must be manual. but Im so impatient :YesNo:
maybe get the Dct do 6000 kms and sell it for the same price as i bought it for, given theres such a long waiting list, and then at the end of the year get a manual lol...
or maybe just be patient and wait for the 1st allocations and get a manual straight away..
1st world problems

DCT for me, I had the E46 M3 in manual, the 1st 335i in manual and yes they were great but beside the benefit of driving in traffic, the DCT box is simply amazing I felt connected with the car.I have had two M3's with DCT and would opt for it again, but I guess it would depend on personal preference and experience.

Manual for me. When you drive a manual you engage with the car, which in my opinion gives you a better adrenaline rush.
