Journey with my new F25 2011 2.0d

Three weeks ago I picked up my (budget) 2011 2.0d.
I have been looking for quite some time.
Manage to get this from Durban at a reasonable price cos I have a lot of work to be done. A few body scratches and big dings.
And service and changing a few parts.
Test drove it a few weeks back but did not view the under carriage ( shaft from transfer case to front diff missing) I guess that’s why it’s a-bit light on diesel. Any clue were I can get a shaft? I also wonder why it was removed.
Pass week I changed the following for peace of mind.
Oil
Oil filter
Diesel filter
Front and rear brake pads and sensor.

Will post as I repair and service other parts.
Next month with be the ZF box service and lower front control arms.

Regards Avir

Congrats bud.

If shaft was removed guessing its a 2 wheel drive instead of xdrive now. Didn't even know that was possible.

What consumption are you getting as these vehicles are light even with the shaft. Most new 20d owners are surprised.

Congrats on your new acquisition, the F25's are great vehicles.

I suspect the car had an xdrive issue and instead of sorting out the transfer case or whatever else affected the system, the previous owner opted to make the car 2wd by removing the shaft. This sorta thing was a lot more popular on the E83's.

Are there no warning lights on the dash or codes when you run diagnostics?

Avg free way around 6.3L per 100
Short drivers around 7.4 per 100

No warning lights on , no codes.
Yup I did hear about people removing the shaft on the E83. Issue on the E83 was the actuator gears wearing out. I should import them before.
I had an E83 2.0 2008 manual. Zero issue over the few years I had it.

I used to drive around with the shaft to the front diff removed but after a while i had an oil leak from the front diff and found that the flange or yoke going into the front diff was held in place by the drive shaft and could be pulled out by hand!!! Not sure if the F25 and E83 are the same front diff type but on my E83 the yoke could be removed by hand, only the dust seal preventing it from falling out and losing all the oil in the front diff. My advice is that you should replace the drive shaft as soon as possible in case it falls out (if same as E83). I was lucky i guess, probably did a few thousand kilos with the drive shaft removed. Had no issues putting it back and removing the electrical plug on the transfer case reducing the car to rear wheel drive only. Btw, could not determine any fuel economy gains by having it removed.

My one looks that this , I wonder why it was removed, maybe issues with the transfer case, owner could have put wrong size tires on the front n rear axle. Maybe some one with a F25 could share more info. Just in case I get a shaft in time to come and it gives out error codes.

So today I took a trip to Newcastle from Durban around 340kms. Had to stop 3 times due to coolant level low. So tomorrow morning will have to see were it is leaking. ( drivers side somewhere can see the antifreeze). 3 times almost 3 L of water I had to fill.

If i remember correctly there was a problem with the egr cooler leaking into the inlet manifold. Could be that it is there where the water is going. Allways a good idea to fit an egr delete kit. Fitted one to my son's 3l diesel F25 X3 after the egr jammed open and blew holes in the inlet manifold due to the heat.

Ok so I managed to pressure test lucky we have tools here, a flange pipe had a hair line crack on top.

Plus I open and checked the cabin / air con filter was extremely dirty.
