Hi,

Any JB4 tuners available in the Johannesburg area?

I have a N55 Twinscroll 2010, and have had the JB4 for about a year now, I need some help with making sure the maps and settings are all correct.

Please advise.

Hi All,

Whilst I am not new to the tuning scene, I am new to bmw, been doing lots of reading on the site.

Car is a EWG M135 AT8, Wagner DP (200cel ***), k&n flat filter, JB4 with 3.31 FW, Running map 5. Fuel is 95 RON + 10% ethanol. OEM Plugs on 30k km. JHB based

I do have a set of NGK 5992 plugs that I could fit as I have felt 1 or 2 miss fires in the 2200-2600 rpm range on occasion (generally in 7th and 8th gear)

I keep having a problem where my JB4 kicks me back to Map 4 from Map 5 on a daily basis,

All on default settings with the exception of boost limit in 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

I does it at random times, haven't notices a smooth pull at WOT do it, but rather when I short shift or unsettle the car with short shift.

I did pull a few logs and from what I can understand I need some help.

Logs below of a few pulls.

My observations:
IAT are low (outside temp is 7-8*C (46*F)
Running lean (mid 13's) throughout
FP H running in mid teens.
timing is ok, but it seems to add timing and then pull it mid run (4700RPM)
boost is smooth and follows target nicely
Ave Ing sits around 2.1-3 even after a few pulls.

Car drives and responds fantastically. But you can feel the timing pull at about 4500rpm.

I decided to change the boost parameters for the last log (150611_0659) and picture (061115_0806) in the user adjustments to max of 15.5psi to see if it helped. I took the boost curve of some default map 5 runs and plotted that but limiting the mid range to 15,5psi instead of ±17psi. timing does look a bit better, albeit flat, but at least its not up n down)

it seems to have helped as the timing seemed happier and it hasn't booted me back to map 4 yet. (log 150611_0659)

having looked at my FP L I think i can increase my eth content to 20%
Do I need to adjust any of the user adjustment variables?

is there anything else I need to do.

I can't seem to add the logs as attachments!!:smashScreen:

Hi mike,
Nice detailed evaluation, however it's hard to define the problem without viewing the logs or your JB user adjustable settings.

A few other bits to clarify:
1) are you running the ewg add on harness?
2) do you have the new ewg specific board, which includes the flex fuel adaptor? Especially since you are running a dose of ethanol.
3) has this only happened since you switched to 3.31? It could be just a bug with the firmware
4) the FP_L value does not function, for N55 it reads oil temp in Fahrenheit, I'm pretty sure this hasn't changed with new updates.

Ive had the type B harness changed to type A, and ive even checked the harness is 100s, but it just wont bloody work.

I can see the JB settings on the cluster and go through all the stuff but it keeps throwing an error (think it was charge something) and then the car goes into limp mode.

So i just need to confirm i am not wasting my time on the harness and then in the mean time its the unit.

N55 Stage 2 Unit.

so we can meet up whenever you are free. Shouldnt i just drop my harness and unit with you so you can test when you have time. Its not like i can use it at all. The car is still with BMW...

Yes I have the ewg board, wires and ff connector. I only got the jb4 on the weekend and uploaded the new fw straight away.

I see I have a typo. I meant FP_H.

I've driven the whole day today and it's still on map 5 and feels a lot better. So I think the lower boost is better. Just need to log a few decent runs and see what it looks like. Just looking now I see Abe ign is at 3.3 after the whole day of mixed driving. With some good pulls through the gears. Here are 2 pulls from last night. First pick( longer graph) is the first with timing pull I am talking about and then the second one is a smoother pull and car looks happier. As well as my user adjustments page.

Your advise is appreciated.

Is it not installed ?

Can inspect it uninstalled but to test the unit, it would be better installed so it will have power and we can connect to it.

Yes, not installed at the moment, lying on my desk in my garage just waiting to be used.

Can i drive the car to you in limp.
