Is JB4 the only answer

if I may,

Specifically for the JB4 and responding to George and Twinz's suggestion.

I want torque, not KW, the stock N55 is plenty fast enough, more then I need.

But I want insane low down grunt which you only get from a V8 or big diesel, which is what I have been used to for probably the last 5 years....

My N55 disappoints every time I floor it, but on top end its exactly the opposite, I run out of balls before the car runs out of power...

Now the question is, as I have read the JB4 has a considerable amount of maps

How configurable are the JB4 maps,

How would you alter the map to sacrifice kw but up torque...

What other mods on the JB4 are essential to do as well ?

What are the relevance of the following, and how important are they.

1. Exhaust
2. Decat
3. Downpipe
4. Intercooler.

Is the JB4 the best option for me as well, considering that my end goal is torque.

Your never going to find my car at Tarlton or drag strips, I dont car how fast it is on a 1/4 mile, but can it do the same speed to the 1/4 mile towing a house ?

On the flashing.
My E60 is flashed, I WISH, I so WISH I had the option to turn off the flash/map, and keep the car standard, but turn it on when I need/want it, I probably would not have popped a turbo.

This is the most attractive feature about the JB4, is that I can keep the car in factory spec, and with a click of a few buttons, its psychotic.

For this reason, I will not favour a flash tune,

Would love to get some facts here from you folk.

I am thinking that for now, I just do JB4, decat,

F10 performance exhausts are scarce, and I am NOT paying agent prices.

But if your a tuner of a JB4/seller,

How will you address my requirement for torque instead of KW, can I get a few inputs on this one please, In detailed as possible please, I would highly appreciate it.

One last thing, I believe that the JB4 monitors oil temps, and will not let you do stupid stuff if the car is not ready for it, is this true ?

In short. The Jb4 platform has enough tuning versatility for your N55.
But without supporting mods you will only be able to self-tune "so much" outside of the standard maps.

The Jb4 is not a magic tune. It can only take you so far then you will have to use it in conjunction with a flash tune for better fueling & timing control as well as some big mods.

The N55 has some inherent tuning constraints which the N54 does not have.

So we are back to the question: what is your goal? For daily use & enough low down grunt the Jb4 will satisfy...to take you from mild to wild you will have to invest in a few additional power mods.

Ever floored an E60 530d in manual with 630Nm on it, or a BMW 750 N62b44 or an E39 M5....

The N55 DCT doesn't disappoint when I floor it?

No but considering they remain in my rear view mirror says it all for me.

Edit Sorry that sounds confrontational not my intention but my stock 135i puts plenty smiles on my face when I floor it. It just goes and goes and goes

I've spent some time in a 135i n55 with JB4, DP, FMIC and WATER METH. Interestingly one component on its own doesn't make a huge difference but the combination is quite impressive!

Map3 was used with 3psi added with the meth mixed 50%.

Now I don't have dyno figures but the above combination and my butt dyno really felt good! The meth is seriously the best kept secret... Not for hp gains necessarily but for how constant the power is delivered run after run and the great impact on keeping temps down.

I know the flashes make more bhp but the JB is reliable and with the bits the combination works very nicely

LZ,

First up, the jb has an oil temp safety built in that cannot be over ridden, therefore oil temps must be over 70deg before she allows you to boost...

Your e60 530D made sum impressive torque figures and the poor driveline must have had a hard time keeping up with the demands, let alone the poor traction control and tyres... If the e60 was the only benchmark you provided then I would say it would be a tough deal to mod the n55 to match... But there is hope....

The n55 has a few attributes going for it though, the electronic turbo control is precise and spool up is very good, while this motor won't deliver the torque in one lump and run out of breathe like a diesel she will force you into your seat and keep you there for much longer...

If I were going this route, I would install the correct jb tuning box for your n55, get a proper downpipe made up together with the removal of any cats in the mid section.. Next step is the appropriate aftermarket intake to ease the restriction on spool up and go have some fun!

Your biggest limiting factor here will be availability of quality fuel, normal pump on its own isn't going to cut the mustard if you want torque numbers greater than 500nm at the wheels, but put the right fuel in and then just hold on tight...

Maps 1 and 2 will be great for normal day to day driving with the dp and intake, you can also use map 6 with its user defined boost points at different intervals to bring the boost in early and taper of as per normal thereafter..
