Aftermarket warranties dont give you close to what it would cost to fix a car like this out if plan. Maybe the payout will cover your labour... maybe... If you can buy a no stories car for R50k more with even a little plan left that is extendable, than why would this car ever be an option? I am not saying the F10 is unreliable but rather that any neglected car can become a timebomb.

Very few people listen to the actual owners when this is pointed out vs plan and you are left to find out how the comforting lies feel when they are paying out 20k for a 100k fix and insisting on "good used" parts. You can get by on cars with cheaper repair Bill's.. on cars like this, either you will get a quote close to if not more than MP extension for a decent warranty or you will quickly find out that the contract is close to worthless. I've seen guys on this forum and elsewhere repeatedly bury their heads in the sand about the value of having a proper Mplan.... The 20k or 30k you save on plan will cover maybe one or two things... or 10% of a big failure... that's why you pay what you pay.

If you've had the car since close to new and plan expires on your name BMW is more likely to goodwill repairs as well but again I guess people like to debate this...

This car has its licence overdue and has been sitting... those two points are red flags to me. Interior looks like it was wiped down with silicone... Your mileage may vary.

That interior of that car looks like it has done 100 and plenty thousand kms.
On that point alone I’d be scared to buy. But as Lew said, maybe it’s just bad detailing (silicone) smeared all over.
Proceed with extreme caution would be my 2cents.

I'm with Llew on this one.

Many cars can be half arsed but this isn't one of them and with more than a couple on the market you don't want to sink yourself into problems.

Yes, as a prospective owner we might set an appropriate amount aside for maintenance but... Spending an spending and spending on the same car gets boring quickly.

Get one with good history, as detailed and current as possible and go from there.

Thanks guys

I will let my colleague know. I tried to convince him to buy an N55 with MP rather but he wants an M car.

You cant argue with an actual owner. Its great to have an M car, but you can very easily regret it when things go wrong. Its worst when someone gives you advise and you refuse to take. I would even go as far as sating that its better to buy a car with slightly higher mileage that has been serviced and maintained properly, as opposed to a lower mileage car with doggy service history.

It is like dating a supermodel who is since past her prime. To keep the condition tip top, you still need to pay...

:withStu: I would listen to Leeu on this, His M5 is probably the only one i would buy out of plan if i could afford that price bracket because of the OCD nature of said individual

Apart from the discolouration of the carpet at the rear, I dont really see any other massive wear & tear on the interior?

Are you referring to the model out of her prime?

Dont disagree with either comment.... I have had e39 M5's and drove beyond MP and servicing at a dealer was horrendous - thats why I ended up taking to people who knew what they were doing (Evolution 2 in Kyalami) who had prepared the works BM's for Group 1 and do the rebuilds of the Motor sport cars. But yeh, I do agree if you can get one still with MP and slightly higher Kms I would go that way myself. My current cars and the last one went beyond MP no problems, just service them regular and do the preventative goodies.

The bottem line is if you plan on buying a performance car, with or without plan be prepared for the expected maintenance cost. Many people dont look at simple items for example brakes, shocks and tyres, lets not even get into a discussion of light bulbs and wiper blades :thumbdo:

Something like this should always be your weekend car or a toy. Not a daily if you are considering running costs in any equation. That way if things do go wrong you have time to wait to fix it. My 2c.

You never emailed me :eek:mgwaiting:

I emailed you, the same day. Will send it again, thanks

There's also some not so nice history with this car, it had major water damage.

O yea, I remember. Then I replied you with the criteria I need to run the check, and you didn't reply on my email.

The car is very dodgy, tons of owners, even Santam, probably written off, then Lastly a panelbeaters group owned.

Thanks to all for the assistance in preventing a horrible buy.
