@ wideopn-x3, no specific reference was made in my post but seeing as you felt so compelled to respond....I guess its a case of the shoe fitting.....
You continue to extoll ad nauseam what is known motoring behaviour and appear to be a one trick pony.
I have no facts or links to this incident but merely an empathy for the parties involved...humane sentiment. This outcome may have been a result of their "actions" but who amongst us obeys and follows the rules a 100% of the time.
If your intention is to come across as a condescending blow hard you're succeeding...chap!
My last post on this thread because it would seem everything that I have said somehow is misconstrued. If I have offended anyone, my apologies. It was never my intention.
Go back and read each of my posts. Not ONCE have I passed judgment on either driver involved in this accident. Not once did I say either deserved what happened. Not once.
My observations regarding the initial hypothesis that these two vehicles collided caused me to question the circumstances. Look at the photo of the front end of the Merc. To the left of the right front wheel there is a very neat straight edge at the bottom of the destroyed engine compartment. Do you see it?
Now look at the first photo. See the concrete blocks? I am fairly confident that width of the base of that concrete block is exactly the width of the area of the engine compartment described above. The area immediately above the "squared off bottom edge" is flattened suggesting impact with a hard flat surface. So, from this observation, I was fairly confident that the Merc ploughed into the concrete block. Again,
fairly confident but I never said, "this is what happened etc etc"
Then one starts looking for the rest of the holes in the "swiss cheese" lining up.
On the face of it, the Golf doesn't have obvious front or rear damage although I qualified my statement on this observation by adding that the left side and full rear of the car weren't visible in the photo. But back to the Merc, the front damage has been explained and there is no distortion visible in the roof line that would suggest a significant impact in addition to the front end.
So my view was that these cars were going in the same direction. Yes of course its possible that they touched but based on my observations as set out above in respect of the Golf, I thought it highly improbable that the Golf was "cruising along" and was hit at high speed by a racing Merc.
Once again, merely observations tempered by a lot of years of looking at wrecks and crash sites and piecing the puzzle together. Am I 100% sure?? No of course not. I cannot be based on 2 photos.
However, when one adds the "admission" by the Golf drivers mate that he had been out drag racing earlier to the mix, making the hop and skip to the conclusion that these two cars were racing and lost control wasn't unreasonable. Low and behold, a few posts later and eye witness reports started to corroborate what the photographic evidence (imho) already showed. A high speed accident scene. The holes in the "swiss cheese" started to line up.
As to the rest of your post, if I sound condescending that is unfortunate but hardly my intention.
This posting on the forum came on the back of my issuing a report during February on a very nasty accident with fatalities and frankly I had had enough. It struck a chord with me.
I have never had much to say in a serious vain on this forum because it should be light hearted and an escape from the kak of the day. Well that is how I see it anyway. I brought my work into the forum. My mistake I guess.
I am tired of seeing young lives wasted because of a rush of mud to the head and the balls being bigger than the brains. As Willy said above here, some kids are given high powered cars as 18th birthday presents. Those parents may as well hand them a loaded 9mm with a hair trigger and one up.
Anyway, in the words of Forrest Gump, "that's all I got to say about that"
Back to being lighthearted.:=):
Cheers
