illegal drag race crash in Durban

Guys I know the owner of the 7R that went into the wall.
He definitely was out racing that night but was cruising home when this happened. Apparently the A45 lost it & crashed into him, thus putting him into the wall.
I agree racing should be kept off the streets but it sucks that this happened when the guy wasn't even racing.

Will the insurance pay for this type off accident:YesNo:

The circumstances would be thoroughly investigated I can assure you. And with this being all over social media, it would not be difficult for the assessor to connect the dots.

In all probability the insurer would repudiate the claim but it's not a forgone conclusion that the Ombudsman would not find in favour of the insured if challenged.

It all depends on the fine print in the policy. Whatever happens the owner of the car is in for a lengthy battle IMHO.

I'm sorry but these guys bloody deserve it. Putting innocent lives at stake :RedNo:

I agree with you 100%, most of these guys run against one another in all the wrong circumstances. With scant regard for other road users.

For the record...I've no issue with a person 'speeding' under the 'right' conditions. Read right conditions as : traffic volume (lack thereof), visibility/condition of the road (def not in urban area) etc etc...

:YesNo::YesNo: fools...but its never going to change and none of us on the forum has NO right to point fingers at these silly chaps because we have all raced on the open roads at some point in our life and for them it was the unlucky time. But we can all know better not too now that we have matured.

I have investigated accidents for insurance companies for 18yrs as part of my practice. That's all I'm prepared to say. :=):

If you were speeding or going over the speed limit before a crash , insurance can repudiate the claim?

In theory yes.

But the clincher is when the owner brags on social media about his/her exploits.

Now I understand why the insurance guy had asked for the full print out from netstar of my parents Sonata Accident . He did mention something about time of the crash as well though .

Do insurance company's actively search the Car forums for these kind of things?

Are we all being watched ??

Shame, shame, shame, they deserve whatever is coming to them. They endanger the lives of other motorists, and should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. No mercy!!!

Assumption is the mother of all f...ups bud. :roflol:

Glad you realised that.

:clapper:

The reference was to my avatar not the circumstances of an accident that puts a car upside down on a wall / fence. Do some simple mathematics and you will realise the forces required to achieve that are not found at speeds that would be considered cruising.

In your 18 years investigating, have you ever seen the result of a car that was "cruising" being hit by a car that was speeding ? It may be a bit more complicated than simple mathematics.

But anyway, I wasnt there, neither were you. Hope everyone involved, at fault or not, recovers and hopefully learned from any mistakes, if any.
