so just got home after hitting some truck tyre debris on the highway...

the inside of my front wheel arch is gone... also there was a plastic clip with electric wires on it hanging down i tried to wedge it in between the remains of the wheel arch but on my way home it must have fallen off :(

the clip looked something like the fitting for the fog light bulb (all the lights are working) but there was not space for a bulb im guessing it was a sensor for the airbags?

does anyone know what it may be? i need to go find another one...

check the temperature inside your car, if its from the inside of your passenger side wheel well, its more than likely the exterior temp sensor.

Ag no that's a nasty thing to happen! Must have been quite a big piece of tyre debris to cause that much damage! Not sure about the wires - no warnings come up on the dashboard? :dunno:

Sucks donkey bits... Sorry dude :(

Its not your airbag sensor, it could either be an one of the following.

1. ABS wheel speed sensor = Would equal ABS light on (2 wires - I think)
2. Pad wear sensor = Would equal replace pads message (2 Wires)
3. Temp sensor as don indicated - will show you an odd temp message (3 wires - I think)

Firstly, If you were to EVER find that truck and its driver...
phone me up so we can go and ...
"Skiet die bliksem!!"
:cursin: I feel your pain.
Take the car to bmw, I know Leo Haese here in Pretoria has no problem doing a free inspection.
Good luck

I also hate truckers. Last month i was driving from Durban to South Coast. As i was passing a truck i heard a loud noise. When i pulled over to check what it was, i found a 10' inch spanner wedged between the headlight and the front bumper. It first cracked a piece of my bonnet of before getting wedged. Its a carbon fibre bonnet :bawling::bawling::bawling:

Friend of mine was driving along, and a board or something fell off a truck.

Thank good for an awesome windscreen, that think would have hit the guy right in the face.
It amost seems like truck drivers are trying their very best to make life hell for other motorists.

windscreens are crazy its amazing how much they can take and still be intact :)

i have no warning lights coming up on the dash
it has 2 wires (green and yellow) and (black and red)
and they are on the drivers side saw the temp reader on the other side looks very different...

it could have been worse as the guy in front of me flicked up the tyre as he hit it so it could have cost me a windscreen too :)
also there was some idiot trying to overtake on the left when there was no gap...he was in my blind spot when this happened if i was not aware of him i would have swerved for the tyre and hit him so least i can be happy that did not happen...

If it was flicked up inside your drivers side wheel arch and there are no warnings etc, my guess would be brake pad wear sensor.

ill have a look on real oem to see if it looks the same...
the thing is this thing did not look like it had any electrical connection to attach to anything.
Wires went in the back then no connections at the front  it was dark thou so i could have it a bit wrong...

I don't think its the brake pad wear sensor just had a look at the car and the wire with the missing clip(thing) runs inside the bumper the brake pad wear sensor wire comes out near the shock...

im taking the car in tomorrow to change the diff oil anyway so will ask them then...i just find this clip very odd and its driving me crazy trying to figure out what it is :)

part 8 was the bit that was damaged this is the passenger side thou my damage is on the driver side

the flat section that connects to the bumper is gone and the front of the the wheel arch has broken off at the bottom

the wire comes out from behind the front of the wheel arch

Crazy, I refuse to replace my windscreen until I absolutly have to, I have 3 cracks in it all on the passengers side. No sooner you replace it, then you get another chip or crack so it's staying as it is for now.

a mate of mine, drove over something the other night, what ever it was was flicked up by the wheel and punctured his radiator, funny enough it didnt damange anything else.

I drove over a folded conveyer belt 2 weeks ago. Big plastic under radiator, aircon fan, Fender liner, fender liner / bumper tensioner (small plastic triangle) and fuel filter. Oh and the condenser bent . . . again. still ok so far.
The guy who dropped it stoped dead in the 2nd from left lane to collect his belt. And I was doing more than a 100km/h in that lane.

Boss got a stone on 2010 730d aircon condenser this week. Not motorplan coverd ..... R6500 for condenser + about R1000 for some filter + labour + wait at least 10 days for the parts from Germany before we can make an appointment that usually takes 1 week.

I want to say our roads suck but
The N1 between Pretoria and Grasmere does look impressive though these days especially at 4:00am

yeh, don't worry we are going to be paying for all the road upgrades with all the toll gates, I drove from Pretoria to Kempton park the other day and say about 4 of them on the R21, and then another 2 on the N1, WTF. How much are we going to be paying? It's crazy.

My next question is, if it is a toll road shouldnt they have people that assist broken down cars, remove debris etc, they do it on the N# and N17 and those are toll roads.

Yesterday on the N1 just after Annendale rd, a truck carying stones was nicely spaying the stones over the highway, becasue he sisnt put a cover on and took it upon himself to do about 120km/h in the middle lane. Luckily I saw it coming and stayed well crear, but I am sure there were plenty of upset drivers.

Yes I agree, Our roads do suck.

Hey guys

I agree.Hate them even more after Monday. Was at the robot to turn onto freeway, green arrow for me,so i turn and truck across at the robot decides to skip the robot and turn even though its red and he is not allowed to turn from there as he is only allowed to go straight.Anyway he goes for it.I manage to stop just next to his right back wheel and notice that if he moves, the bull bar at the back of his truck is going to take my bumper off!

I hoot and tell him to wait as i'm going to reverse abit,so he can go.He totally ignores me and proceeds to hook that bull bar into my left side bumper and continues driving untill he rips my bumper off till the numberplate section and drives off.Could'nt go after him as bumper started to fold under when i moved forward.Got his reg though.

Luckily it was on my PEUGEOT and not my BMW otherwise i'd be locked up right now.

Just thought i'd share
