How much milage is too much milage?

Hi all,

Looking at maybe getting a 135i but a little weary since most of the ones available are all sitting at 70k+.

Is this too high a milage? A bit of a noob and first time buying previously owned so a little jittery.

Also what items are likely to need replacing if the car is out of motor-plan?
Most I'm looking at are N54 motors and searched through the forum but all I know is N55 is alot better.

Forgive my ignorance. Coming from a Toyota so your experience will be appreciated.

what you need to do is pull the motorplan history and make sure all the problem areas have already been addressed...

you dont want it dropping off motorplan and then have big expensive items come up that can only be fixed by the dealer...

I've got a 2008 N54 135i, just hit 105000km still running strong and just as happy as the first day I bought it. Gonna get some carbon doctor done and I'm styling!

I have an N54 without MP for 2 years and did 56000km now.
Car has been tuned since I bought it and some before that.

So far , besides normal servicing and a carbon clean.
I replaced only 3 injectors and a tappet cover+gasket.

Common problems are :
hpfp ( most were replaced on recall)
Injectors (07-08s had a recall)
Coils

Budget a little extra for these things if they go and maintain your vehicle and you will be rewarded with driving pleasure.

The n54/55 are temperamental cars but they are not unreliable! I have put a ton of mileage on mine and its much higher than everyone here has posted on theirs, mines been tuned since I got it and the only failures I can speak of that got me stuck was a failed alternator 250km from home....

Parts are not cheap so don't expect e36/46 prices if you expecting that... However if you have a DIY sense about yourself there isn't anything you can handle... If you buying outside of motorplan then get yourself an aftermarket warrantee and that will cover most of the big ticket items that may pop up...

Most importantly the x35 is a very rewarding car if you want to have fun!

A car, and i say any car will go as far and for as long as you are prepared to maintain it.

As long as the one you looking at has been serviced and maintained.

I honestly don't think they are heavy maintenance wise.
The main issues are sorted by motorplan by way of recalls for the N54 and the N55 (Only recall really was for a battery cable).
Everything else, the cars are decent really.
My N55 is on 109k km's now and still drives like a dream.
