Has BMW lost their MOJO???

I'll probably get evicted from this forum for even thinking this...but could it be. Yes the outgoing M5 was amazing(personel fav) and the E9x M3's are still leading the pack, but where is BMW's sports/supercar. I never thought i wake up one day and both BMW's biggest rivals have sports/supercars and all BMW has is a M3. Merc SLR and SLS, both of whom I would not give a second look and Audi's R8 and R10 would get the same treatment, yet, Merc and Audi have built these cars, whether you like them or not they are in production.
What's stopping BMW from producing one. Could it be that BMW has fallen behind the pack?

The fact that BMW is caught up in all this eco-mentalism is stopping them from making a supercar. It is also stopping them from making a proper new M5 (or at least how I see it) with a proper engine, something like a remake of the S70/2 engine, that right who would say no to a 6l V12 M engine, I thought so :)

I think its time the release a beast of note to play with bugattis...if vw could do that to a buggatti..think what BMW is capable of doing.

Now I know they say it will be a green supercar, have a look at this!

The concept has been flying around some time now, hope they get to building it. I just wont take it in that luminous orange!

Thats stupid. Who wants a supercar with only a 3l engine (unless its a ferrari F40 or the new Ariel Atom, but they both have V8s) and brake regeneration? Give me a 6.2l V8 minimum!

Does it really matter if they make a supercar?
I mean.. How many on this forum would afford something like that ans have the pleasure of driving the car.

I agree. I think the other manufacturers (merc and audi) mostly make supercars as a marketing ploy, in order to up sales of their normal cars. BMW is clearly not as desperate...

Well they still supply their engines, so why not just make their own cars as we know they can make near perfect chassis.

Merc had to use Mclaren for there SLR and now AMG for their SLS which was an independent company back in the day, Mercedes merely bought them out and now they are Mercs in house tuning company. Same goes for Audi, using technology from their sister company Lambo :nono:

Very true, but we can then at least talk about it and go to the the dealers to sit in it and drool on it, that is until they kick you out of course :) (only happened to me once (sort of) at a merc dealer)

Bmw's twin turbo v12 thats in the 760li deserves to be used in a mid-engined supercar of some sort maybe have two engine choices like audi with its R8 v8/10, twin turbo V8/12 in the M1 concept would b give headaches to any rival supercar

Bmw has lost the plot. Quite frankly merc & audi are the exciting brands of choice. Seriously, which car in the bmw stable truly excites you? The one you drive is the "choice" given to you. The point is not even: why bmw does not have a supercar....it does not have exciting cars in any model range any more, period.

It is not about affordability either. Most people can afford what bmw is currently dishing up....yet we buy it because of our loyalty to the brand and because bmw continues to build good cars...not exciting cars...just good ones.

We pin our hopes on the new M5 to bring back our sense of pride & excitement but by the time it makes its appearance the Mercs & Audis have set the benchmark yet again.

Its a sad state of affairs that the "exciting" cars in the bmw model range are its mid size engine starting with the the N54/55...but when you look beyond that; they ugly as hell in the current SUV ///M derivitives on the road.

Bmw, build us an R 10 twin turbo, supercar and i will believe again.

I read an article recently that stated BMW is making "sausages of different lengths". I guess they are going with the recipe that works, taking a page out of the Porsche book. Who have been selling the same car for ages and is still the manufacturer with the highest profit margin, six times that of BMW(who has the second biggest profit margin).
