I'm assuming this only happens in auto mode, and not in manual?
My car will never do that in auto, if the change speeds are 1 or 2.
Don't ever drive it with the change speeds at 3, so not sure if it would do it then.

Interesting fact, they share the same gearbox but don't have the the same drivelogic controller to change shift speed, it is set.

Ooohh, did not know that.
I would assume then that your shift speeds is mine on position 2.
If that is the case then no, mine doesn't do that.

@KaosHunter hey bro. Was this issue ever resolved. I have an f80 m3 that seems to change down into gears 1 and 2 when in auto mode and the most comfortable gear box setting. Only happens when slowing down gradually and coming to a stop.

Took it into Sandton Auto and they said they're doing a full on software update for my car. Don't know if this was BS or not. But the car is still doing the harsh down shifts.

Gearbox adaptations @YasserIsmail

It does that if you reset them and immediately drive the car in traffic. Had that issue once. Also under the same gradual slowdown conditions it gets into the wrong gear and then will spectacularly jerk you into 2nd or 1st... There are drive-in adaptations done that the dealers don't always do... and then 90% of the time when you collect your car it is into afternoon traffic.

my experience may be completely irrelevant because i did not have a M car. BUT, my previous car was a 135i DCT, which is more or less a similar gearbox. anyway, the downshifts from 3 - 2 -1 where really harsh and after a year of complaining and software resets and all manor of BS, the dealership finally realized the DCT clutches where out of alignment. they sorted that and the gearbox was perfect.

If its a BMW sanctioned track event i don't think they would cancel your MP that would be stupid of them.

Book the car in, they will probably try to reset the adaptations of the gearbox, it will be fine for a little while and the issue will come back.

I would insist on a new gearbox.

Thanks @TurboLlew

What was the solution? Did you take the car back to the dealership and have them reset again and do apaptations?

Yep, dealer sorted it out by redoing the adaptations. It happened just after I replaced clutches.
