Hi......

My 1st post, awesome forum and looking forward to many more posts:thumbs:.

Been a BM fan since i can remembe:praise:r, will have saved enough in a few months to get my first BM.....and having driven my bro's 130i a few yrs back i cant resist!

Want some opinions on this subject if u willing to share......is a 130i out of motor plan (over 100,000k's) a problem? have budgeted on R160,000 - R190,000

I know it's down to the individual vehicle and weather it had the beans torn out of it and many other factors.

Any pointers on looking out for key issues when buying......like tips and what items wear more often than others.

It may be asking too much but what will an average service cost after MP. Looking to keep the beauty till 140k....(been thinking way ahead)

BMW is well known for their bullet proof inline 6 motors.
But never the less get the VIN number of the potential car and get a report from BMW to check what work has been done and what re-occurring problems the car may have had.
Things to look out for would be oil leaks, especially around the filter housing heat exchange, suspension should be looked at if you are buying sport pack.
Buying a BMW out of motor plan there is always a risk, but it must be a risk that you are comfortable with.

Thanks for the advice Bro. :=):

Yea, that's why I need to do some homework to find that comfort factor. My bro's 130i had some problems with the suspension, had to be replaced (M-sport pack) and let me say when that bill was shown at the shop - it was eye-watering:yuck:. Lucky it was still under MP, that's just the ups and downs i guess.

What options are there to extend MP and do they cover things similar to initial MPs or is the devil in the details.

If it were me i would look for a 130i with some motorplan, gives peace of mind while you get to know your car and you can take advantage of the motorplan before it expire's.

Those motors are very nice. You won't be disappointed.

You'll love the 130i. This is my 2nd 130i.

Do your homework properly when buying a 2nd hand 130i. Get the VIN number and look at its history.

For your budget, get one that's still in MP that's got mileage in the 90k's or few months left, so that it doesn't cost you a lot to get it running 100%

Howzit and welcome bud. If you decide to go with the 130i, you should look at taking a good warranty plan out. It's does not fully cover you but at least some of your costs will be covered. Something to think about.

Just bought a 2007 130 mpack - will probably get it on Friday? I know a lot about honda's and r busy turbo charging a prelude H22A but got no idea how to enhance the performance of these motors. for now that's not a priority but i would like to know where i can get cosmetics for these vehicles. i was thinking of bumpers, grills, wheels(225's and 255's with normal tyres - if it will fit???) lights ect...
THe motor plan expired - what other alternatives do i have??

You smoke the lights with Laminx film. I had it when the car was white

Just another bit of 2c commentary: check how much insurance will cost as well. That could be a deal breaker.

Other than that they're great cars. Good fuel economy too considering the performance on offer.

Oh - and runflats in 18in are expensive. So an option may be to fit normal tyres (also improves comfort) and carry a space saver spare in the boot.

Not sure if Motorite cover BMW's, I don't think so. Look into the Bosch motorplan, it's reasonable @ R10k for three years (excludes electronics though although that is an option albeit more pricey). They have various plans available. If you have to fork out for tyres, shocks, cambelt etc it's wise to have R20k+ cash lying about depending on how fussy you are.

I got a quote from Bosch. They no longer have a plan that covers service costs, but their 'Intensive care' plan which covers electrical and mechanical replacement parts seems good.

They are expensive though. I do 120km a day and because of that, my quote comes to over R1000 per month. I am waiting for more details on all the packages they have and what they include, but a good idea would be to take the car you want to their service centers where they do a 150 point check on the car....cost about 400 bucks.....well worth it if they can determine what condition the car is in.
