Good stuff man!
Now just spray that tank and it'll look great even when dry

The tank has already gone back in! Was actually easier than I thought! It's staying that way for 'originality'.....:roflol:

Guys, can anyone recommend a good autotrimmer in Cape Town that can redo the carpet on the 6? I have found one so far who looks decent, called Albert's Auto Trimmers in Diep River, has anyone dealt with them?

I really hope to one day own a 635Csi, been my dream since I was a little boy.

I have also always wanted one, the one thing I will say is don't compromise on what you want. I had looked at all sorts of old BMWs as an option to the E24, and other than an E28 M5, there was nothing that caught my imagination like the E24,so I am glad I waited. And now that the car is started, the excitement is building even more to the day when it rolls out of the garage and I can take it for a drive.

Going well!
Steer clear of McCarthy auto trimmers. They did good job on the leather but really did not give a shit with anything else and theynlost anbunch of screws for the trim and broke clips.

Ok, so an update. I went out to Diepriver to go and look at a scrap 78 633csi. Was so sad seeing that car like that, but its parts will be put to good use!
I bought the clutch master cylinder from the guy at the yard, but to my surprise, when checking the car this evening,I discovered that the slave cylinder is missing as well.
As you can see in the peeture,it is missing, having left a nice clean mark where it SHOULD have been. It is my understanding that a best practice is to replace both anyway, and although I wasn't intending that, well I guess I am going to have to now. The used cylinder seemed fine as when I was at the scrap yard there was good pressure on the clutch pedal and it was extended correctly,so that's good news.
As you can see in the pic below, the slave cylinder is obviously missing,so basically the car needs a whole new hydraulic system for the clutch. I am just hoping there is no damage in that bell housing. I also came across quite a substantial leak from the bell housing just after the clutch towards the engine. I am suspecting the seals may need replacing. Hopefully that doesn't require the engine coming out!

I also took the remnants of the exhaust off except for the branches, so the front boxes and the rear box are now off the car. Need to get the part numbers off as I really want to replace it with an OEM system from BMW,which I will piece together if necessary. I also discovered that the front mounting brackets for the bumper are loose,so I am going to pull the bumper off altogether to realign and then put the front bumper back on.
The bottom of the block and the transmission are completely filthy,so a complete engine removal is on the cards as soon as I can find a workshop where I can do that. I think the car is probably about 75% ready for the road,I am going to need to pull the discs and calipers out to clean them up and bleed the system of the old fluid and replace with nice clean fluid. I am also finding hoses missing from places, so I am going to take some pics and then post them and we can play find the hose attachments....:roflol:

So lots of progress, just not as much as I was hoping for!

So after making the comment about your clutch a little while back mine has collapsed..... I think I may have run into the same issue as you. If there are other ideas you guys might have please voice them.
Bugger - do you have a price on what the whole new hydraulic system for the clutch will cost?

Oh crap! Did the pedal just drop to the floor? If so it's actually not as bad as you think, then it's either the master or slave cylinder that's gone. The sort of good news is that neither part is particularly expensive. I sourced a second hand master for R550 and a brand new one from Midas was R920 I think. To the best of my knowledge the slave cylinder is the cheaper of the two, about 2/3rds the price of the master, so probably R500 give or take. So you probably in it for about R1500 give or take, which honestly is not too bad.
Other option is to try Goldwagen, who I am going to give a shout out to about my slave cylinder.

When I got the car in August last year the pedal was slightly set back but I didn't take to much notice because it is 33 years old. The non Sunday morning I took the car out and noticed after the first corner that the clutch was about 10cm off the floor. So I turned around and went straight home.
R1500 for all new kit is not bad at all.
Am I right in guessing that the master has probably gone and the slave cylinder is giving me those 10cm?

Master gives you all the lift. It's actually got a rod that connects into the cylinder that can be adjusted with a bolt (from what I saw when I had the new master in my hands during the week).
My recommendation would be to replace both as a matter of course. I have done lots of research and everyone says replace both, because if the master goes the slave isn't far behind it. Trawl some of the scrap yards and see if you can find an E12,maybe an early E28,they should have the same cylinders as ours. But you don't have to worry, if the clutch wasn't slipping before then then all the mechanicals should be fine, it will just be the cylinders. And they are relatively easy to replace on your own! :=):

o great :=): the only issue that I can recall before this was that the car battled to get into gear for the first few changes (once into each gear) So i Sunday before I left while parked and with the engine running I moved through each gear. I though that would help instead of driving it in. That was the only issue.

Moving through gears could maybe be a lack of lubrication in the gearbox, judging by what you're saying it's like it's warming up before allowing you to change gear. But start with the cheap parts. The pedal dropping is definitely the master cylinder. Cheapish, easy fix and you can DIY without having to fork out cash, if you're into that kind of thing!
Good luck though and please let me know how it goes,I would like a first hand account of the replacement!

Clutch slave cylinder procured from Goldwagen in Montague Gardens, awesome price of just R315!! Very stoked about that, so will be going into the car soon, then that is the hydraulics for the clutch sorted!
Will need to then top up with DOT 4 and bleed the system, and I should have 1x working clutch! That means car should be moveable in the next short while!

No update for a while,so time to put one in. Finally managed to get some good quality time working on the car today, installed both the clutch cylinders. Success, after much pumping of clutch pedals and after lots of dirty work, the car started taking gears and I now have a functioning clutch.
Next step is to get the exhaust sorted and then the car should be at least around the block driveable.

Thanks guys! I am indeed Wes, but without the exhaust I probably can't,cos the noise is just too loud, so either going to have to tow it to an exhaust place or get that back box myself and then have it welded on. But I am just seriously chuffed it moves!

So big day yesterday. First time the car has moved under its own power for about 5 years or so. Pulled it out of the garage so I could get it into the sun and run some water over it and clean the garage where there were oil and fuel marks. Had a bit of an issue with one of the fuel lines continually popping off, hopefully that is sorted. While it was out gave it a clean on the outside just to make it more presentable.
Couple of new problems have popped up. All the electric windows don't work now, I am not sure if that is the relay or something a bit more sinister,so not sure where to look first.
Also the car will not turn off when I take the key out the ignition, something that concerns me a tad.
I have also had the tyres taken off the M535i rims I bought and put onto the originals,I prefer the originals anyway. Next thing is getting it to an exhaust place (next week) and I think it should get there under it's own steam, will just need to be uber careful.
Thought I would take a couple of snaps while the car was out instead of sitting in the dark!
