i would remove all relays and ecu etc etc, clean up all contacts with crc contact cleaner, wash etc...

perhaps whip out the soldering iron check for some dry joints.

expansion and contraction and temperature changes has a funny way of disconnecting and reconnecting dryjoints ;)

Good thinking! Always start with the complicated things when it may be something relatively simple!! lol!

I'll give it a crack this evening!! Thanks Anton!

my e32 has a dodgy "crash module relay" and when it rains and gets damp out, then when i pull the stalk on the steering column to spray water on the windscreen then the hazards go off and interior lights come on.

when its dry weather and sunny, this does not happen.

so DONT Discount damp causing issues with your electronics which inturn can bring your engine to standstill

Funny you should say that. Sunday the car wouldn't start, yesterday afternoon I was faffing around with the relays and then the car started and started perfectly first time, so I concur with your statement. Funny how these old cars get so temperamental with the smallest thing. So now she's running. Will take her for a short drive later and see if the problem is rectified or not. Gotta love old electronics.

My E30 had a similar issue where it would just die, but it didn't happen to often. Figured it must be an electrical issue so I pulled some relays that were easy to get to, cleaned them and put them back. I also pulled all the fuses and gave them a good look over and put them back in after I made sure it's all clean. Car hasn't died again since.

It sounds like an electrical issue you have, but to be honest it can be many things from a screwy relay to a faulty plug. Just try and work through as much of it as you can and make sure it's all clean.

Really? Well at least you asked nicely!:roflol:

As of this update,I figured out what the issue is with the car not switching off. There is a wire that runs from the steering column through to the ignition coil and attaches to a clip. If I remove it,car switches off,if I reattach, car doesn't switch off. I noticed that the connector was a bit damaged, so will be replacing that.
I have also spent the better part of 4 days on the car polishing and buffing to get the crap off that has been settling for years. I can say that the car is actually a stunning Alpine white, and not a pearl white. I will put some pics up when I download them off my phone.
I managed to get the passenger door window working (with lots of help from Carbon). The fuel pump and filter have been replaced, but I have an intermittent leak now, think the clamps may be giving way. The windscreen replacement is going to be a mission, as I will need new gaskets, rubbers and chrome trim in order to replace it,and I just don't know if there is anyone skilled enough to do it,so I am a bit apprehensive.
The other thing is that since I did the polish and the buff and the rest of it,there is quite a lot of hail damage on the car, which I am upset about, obviously saw one too many Highveld hail storms! It's nothing major, but it's there, like the car was sitting on a driving range and the golfers just had bad aim,but hit it occasionally :fencelook:
The car is really looking good though and I am very pleased with the progress. I am taking her on a run next weekend, not too far, about 20km round trip, just to get her out for a bit!

And I managed to upload some pics, taken this weekend and on Wednesday night.

I've actually got a replacement windscreen, it came with the car . The previous owner ordered it to get the current one replaced and it never got done.Luckily PG Autoglass in Roodepoort kept it in stock due to the rarity, so I was DAMN lucky!

Those prices are also cheaper than the indicative pricing on realoem. Thanks!

They had the windscreen out on when they did teh dashboard on my car. They replaced it with chrome trim and original seals. I could see no evidense they had removed the window.

Got the car out of the garage yesterday to take a few snaps. Have completed the second pass polish on the car:

1.Compound
2.Scratch Remover
3.Swirl Remover
4.Colour match wax
5.Cleaner wax
6.Ultimate wax

After each application, remove with buffing pad, then wipe down with lint free cloths, then buff with polishing pads. Still do:

1.Third stage polish (application of pre-wax polish and then seal with ultimate wax)
2.Detailing of all the bright work (chrome etc.)
3.Replacement of windscreen
4.Replacement of vinyl stripes around the car
5.Refurbishment of the interior (it just needs a DAMN good clean)

This will all be taking place in the next few weeks (I am on leave soon so can really get stuck in). The valve cover also needs to come off to be resprayed and attended to. I have also replaced the two outer headlight bulbs with new, more powerful Osram bulbs, has made a HUGE difference. I am taking the car on a short run to Melkbos this weekend,so she can breathe some fresh air,and so I can take some new photos that are not of my driveway

Will keep you posted.
Herewith some updated pics of the progress so far:

Thanks man,I really have enjoyed it. Been giving it a lot of attention lately and I am very happy where it is going. If you look at some of the pics earlier in the thread, you wouldn't think it's the same car.

Thanks! And the cool thing is.....it doesn't have a lick of new paint on it. The original paint is still in brilliant condition considering it sat outside in the Highveld heat, cold and thunderstorms for over 3 years, so I am properly chuffed that it's still in such good condition.
