Looks interesting......
I'm gonna ask Dax if he's got that timing light so we can use it on Wednesday. Maybe that'll help as well.
And 17 years ago was yesterday!!

Played catch up on this thread and car for the last 20min.

Pain in the a** sometimes, right?

Glad you getting closer and closer to enjoying the car. And as for those dirty wheels that look like giant mud pies, WHO SAID YOU SHOULD RESCUE A CAR FROM A PLACE THAT NOT EVEN THE GPS KNEW OF?

Don't awnser. I apologise. Mostly.

You've caught glimpses of joy when driving her already, and as you have seen with these guys here, someome is always willing to help :)

Now finish up so I can take it for a spin.

Hello Wes!! Yeah, a right royal pain in the ass to be honest, but she is looking VERY different from the car we collected that day in the middle of nowhere!!

I'm just waiting for the weather to change here so that I can then do the polish I have been promising for the better part of a month now, then she will look spectacular. Going to try and get that Alpine white to come out the way BMW intended!!

As for the middle of nowhere, that's the definition of a BARN FIND!:roflol:

I have caught some glimpses, now just the timing needs to be sorted out, which hopefully I can do tonight. I got a timing light from a mate,so going to try and see if that works.

All in all, it's been more a labour of time than pain, and I can't wait to get the interior sorted out!

Right Mr Morgan..

Just in case you needed a little more motivation :blab:

EDIT: The only thing i would lose is the front number plate. Even when i get pulled of (for no reason obviously, they agree that it looks so much better without the front plate).

So I spent a bit of time cleaning the old girl up on Sunday. Firstly, Wes, those rims look awesome bud, very tempted to find a set like that...

Anyways, back to topic at hand! I spent a good portion of Sunday cleaning the outside of the car up a bit. After a good scrubbing outside and some cleaning up of doors etc,I got stuck in with the DA polisher. Sorry about the quality of the pics, was battling with the light. Anyway, the polishing (first attempt) seriously brought some life back into the paint work. However, a few years of neglect have taken their toll. I did clay the car first before polishing, then used the compound and a colour fast polish before a wax, and I am hugely impressed. The general condition of the paint isn't too bad. I haven't finished yet, my boss called me for dinner.....so I have to do another pass with the polisher and a bit more with the bright work on the car.
The pics are before and after, but not complete after. I am quite excited about how the car is coming on,she really is beginning to look the part.

After being cleaned, still lots do though!

Before polish

What the clay picked up,and this wasn't even the worst.

Trying to show the difference between the polished side (right) and the unpolished side (left)

After first run with the polisher

Still a long way to go!

Well i do see a metal, natural 630i near my house with those unique tires.I think its the same situation,
as the BBS M4 E23 rim they had a tire dimension that went out, of manufacturing if I am not wrong.

You might want to pinch those tyres....they're like gold!

Finally managed to do the roof tonight. Shew, I am quite astonished at how neglected it seems the car became. After the owner's father passed (it was his daily drive) it would seem that the car was either abused or left to stand for ages or both. Anyways, got stuck in with the DA polisher and some elbow grease and am relatively happy with the results. I do now realise there is lots of work to be done, but the car is really starting to step out of it's dirty shell.

Before I got started, just as a benchmark.

First run of compound.

After a few runs with the DA and some buffing, this was the end result.

Just a reminder of what the car looked like when I got it......

Thanks guys,I am starting to see the car really come out from behind the curtain, and I am pretty chuffed.

Thunder,I used the Menzerna compound that came with my DA. I am keen to get some Megs compound (I have a hand applicable one) and see if there is a noticeable difference. What I am quite happy about is that the car's paint in general is in pretty good condition considering it sat exposed to the elements for a couple of years. However, there is some nice Highveld hail damage that is evident, which will need to be repaired.

All in all,I am progressing nicely and happy! Seeing what a truly beautiful car the E24 was/is!
