Generic mp3 conversion kit ?

My E46 currently has a stock cd shuttle installed, but I'd like to replace it with an mp3 player conversion kit. I know there's specifically one for ipods, but I'm hpoing there is maybe a generic conversion kit that allows one to use any other mp3 players instead of ipods ?

Does anyone know more about this?

PS. I know of the mp3 FM transmitters but I'm not a big fan because the quality of the sound sucks for the most part.

Mmm, yeah I read through it but there's not much of a conclusive answer ther.
Sounds like I'd have to buy some Aux cable, which is fine, but then I have to find some manual way of getting the audio jack to the front of the car.

I'd prefer something that's a little more installed/integrated instead of some half DIY job

you go & buy a AUX cable from BMW, it has a female 3.5mm input, you then mount it on the console either by the DSC switch or route it under the console to the rear ashtray & mount there..

Or you can go to BMW, give them your wallet & a tube of lube, get them to install it and you just asume the bent over position

HAHAHAHA ok alright, I get the idea. I'll get the cable and try and do it.

I suppose I lose the audio controls on the steering wheel though ?

oh..See now you got a problem.. To get those to work you will need to pay more money.. not just the aux cable..
