Congrats and welcome to diesel world. How do the two compare?
Thanks bro! While the feels for both cars are fresh in my mind, let me answer this:
From an F20 to F30 comparison, it is a jump that was not expected. Though its roughly the same look and feel interior-wise the 3 series is a lot more comfortable, spacious and ergonomically better. The 1 series didn't feel cramped at all, but I always felt that the ergonomics could be a slight bit better, also the seating position on the 3 vs the 1, with the same sport seats and setup, the 3 seat position feels a bit more natural. I also really really like the steering wheel in the F30, though the new M Sport F20s come with it too.
In terms of the styling, I've always preferred the F30 to the F20, however that's in plain guise - the F30 looks more aggressive to me. My F20 turned a lot more heads, with the carbon bits, suspension, etc - something which I hope will change with the 3. The sheer amount of F30s on the road make you just another face, which is pushing me to give it some individuality.
In terms of engine, I miss the bark of the 1. However, that's with the Downpipe and other stuff that were fitted. In standard form the 1 series is soulless and you don't get the full feel of what the car could be. The 3 just doesn't do it for me. The hissing from the engine and the throaty sound is nice, but it just lacks what a petrol engine offers. In terms of a daily drive in normal driving conditions, I don't see myself missing the power that the 1 had just yet. I do however really miss what the sport auto had by means of the paddle shift. The 1 also felt more like a go kart whereas the 3 certainly ensures that you feel the extra weight. Also, I don't particularly think the M Sport suspension makes that big of a difference to improving dynamics, but I'll re-visit this once my planned suspension mods take effect.
I LOVE the Harmon Kardon sound in the 3. The Business sound I had in the 1 just cannot compare at all. It is so much fuller and better, I cannot tell you how much I love it. Same goes with the extended dash display and professional navigation. All come together so well. A really neat touch is the connected drive package which allows me to control certain car functions from my phone, remotely which is pretty neat. The concierge services are also top notch! I thought it was a novelty, but I'm finding regular use for it all the time!
Overall, these are two very different cars. I like them both, each for different reasons. It depends totally what you'd want either for, but for now, given my current choice, I'm really happy :coolshake:
