First time BMW owner regretting it! Help?

Hi everyone,

I really dont know where to turn anymore. I really could use some solid advice. I baught a BMW 135I 2010 MDC from a dealership called Top Gear Auto in Johannesburg.

I had the vehicle for about 3 weeks and I have noticed that the car is unbelievebly jerky in traffic. With the stop and go all the time or maybe the pace is too fast to stop but too slow to not be braking.

I physically feel the car jerk in and out of gear as its going along. Even as I am standing still foot on the brake it shifts for some reason? It doesnt change gear just jerk like the clutch is grabbing/releasing fast.

I have performed throttle reset. Even sent it to JSN BMW that had it for 7 working days to update software and it took the 3 days to figure out that there was a missfire on the engine due to spark plugs?? Anyway I originally sent them the vehicle due to this jerking. Got it back to day. Guess what nothing changed.

I baught it end August. In total I have had the vehicle with me for 4 weeks and they had it for 2.

What could this be? Does the MDC do this? Is it normal? I am sitting at a point where i want to cancel the deal.

I cant take this jerking it tires out my body when you drive some where it feels like someone is in the back seat kicking your seat every time you stop and want to accelerate again.

Any advice would be fantastic.

That isn't good enough. You want BMWs own software telling you there is something wrong.

Trust me Gert is your guy. Look at all the raves about him on this very forum and you will see. Ontop of that he knows a bunch of mastertechs that will quickly diagnose the issue if not software related.

What is a MDC?

Apparently its a Motorsport Dual Clutch gearbox and thats how its listed on the OTP from the dealer.

Its the DTC with launch control.

Ok, time for some feedback.

First off special thanks to Gert at OBD Worx for taking the time to have a look at what’s wrong with my car. He did a software check and saw now error and then we went for a drive.

After feeling the thumps in 1st gear he told me it might be the clutch that is slipping and its def not normal that the car does that.

I the immediately contacted the dealer and told them I was on my way to JSN BMW. When I got there I got the workshop manager to take a ride with me and was not able to replicate the problem as severely as when Gert was present but I think I got my point across.

He told me that it could be a clutch problem, a faulty Megatronic control unit or something in the transmission itself.

The vehicle is booked to go in to JSN next Monday the 19th to do further testing and he said he will have to lease with BMW technical to advise him on the procedures.

I hope this is moving in a direction.

OP - Please ensure that Top gear Auto is aware of all the problems. Further to that then if this car has major problems, then claim CPA and return the car rather.

It is very little that I have heard of a DCT car giving these types of issues...

I am in constant contact with them. They are not the speediest bunch or give a rat about customer relation. They do however fix what needs to be fix and has given me a courtesy vehicle every time my car has gone in.

I will give them this opportunity to fix the vehicle and if they can’t they will have to source me a DTC at another dealer and buy it out.

According to CPA they are still willing to help so I am obligated to give them a fair chance to remedy the situation.

Anyone have a ballpark what a DTC transmission costs? Would please me greatly if they have to spend R100 000.00.

They have already spent R15k on repairing the radiator, doing software and service. That took them 2 weeks though. Well it took JSN 7 working days.

Not very impressed with the service at BMW.
