Wondering what the fanatics thought of JC review of the new M3 last night on top gear.
I think he really liked it. He summed up by saying if you have 56k pounds lying around, go and buy one- there's not much better out there.

Wow he really was to the point on that one, the M3 part was about a minute of side ways action and thats it.

and then he chose the i8 to drive home with, although he didn't like the fuel consumption of the i8 not living up to the specs

Hey guys.... He passed Doncaster on the way up North
Not sure if I'm proud of this but it's his home town and where I live now- lol

He said " this car is utterly brilliant"
"It is a fabulous wonderful car"

I agree

He loved it, but it was more about the i8.

Wouldn't be surprised if he buys an M3 or 4

What u guys think of the Daytime lights on the i8, it looks a bit Audi like, would have preferred the angel eyes or rings.

Oh and how funny was Will Smith!!

Somewhere he mentioned all M cars would be hybrid or was I dreaming. I would love to see an M3 with electric drive on the front wheels to help it of the line.

I do believe the m3 is a typewriter compared to the i8 laptop

In all honesty the m3 is not special, you can walk into any dealership and get to drive similar products from all the manufacturers. The i8 is something special as it's the beginning of a new era in motoring, I would have made the same choice as Jeremy.

New M3 is a 335i plus vat, nothing more.

What is the feedback like on those electric steering racks? Do you lose all sense as to what the front wheels are doing?

I agree with you that the M3/M4 is not that special....it's a good car with loads of new technology (not as advanced as the i8 obviously), its a great everyday car, but special it is not. As far as it being a 335i plus vat though, you are way way off the mark...even a modded 335i (although maybe faster than the M3) will never be in the same league....to truly understand this you have to test drive them right after the other and drive them properly. I'm not saying the premium on the M3 over the 335 is justifiable though, I still think the 335i is better bang for your buck....but I can promise you that the M3 is not simply a 335i plus vat, it's not even comparable.

As far as the steering feel is concerned I find the comfort setting too "dead"....and the sport plus setting to be too stiff to the point that every bump on the road requires adjustment of the steering wheel....sport mode is perfect for me....it will never feel as good as a hydraulic steering....but its damn close.....and to me it's second best on the market after Porsche's new electric steering system.

I agree completely with White, cannot compare.
The M3/4 feels like a completely different car. Honestly, its really difficult to say which I would say is better to drive between the E9X M3 and the M3/4.
I don't like the steering feel of the M4 and M6 at all.

I was really disappointed with that review of the M4 on Top Gear.
Its as if they put it in that video just to show the difference between old BMW technology and new.

Oh and Will Smith is a flippen legend!!! :praise:

It's sad to see that some enthusiasts want to write off the work that goes into an M car.
These cars are developed with track capabilities and perfect road use too. It ain't no straight line drag racer - check out an Ms Nurburgring track times man.
The M car is by no means a 335i plus vat cos it was 14% when I left some 17 yrs ago.... Has it increased -- lol

Yeah, a 3/435i with similar power figures isn't anywhere close to what an M3/4 stands for. M Division cars are a lot more than that.

It's like saying an E46 M3 is like a 330i plus vat...

I haven't watched the new episode of Top Gear yet, so I'll post more about it once I watch the episode.

I haven't drive the new M3/M4 but coming from the owner of a modded E92 335i, in my opinion even the E46 M3 is a much more engaging and thrilling drive than my 335i, let alone the E9X M3.

My 335i is quicker than a stock V8 M but I will be the first to admit that ///M cars are special. When driven well, and to their full potential, it is one of the most rewarding driver experiences you can get.

The boosted 6 Pot ///M will surely live up to its pedigree.
