F80 M3 on top gear

Can we get back to the topic of the M3 on Top Gear?

If Jeremy tells you to go out and buy one, then you know you should if you had the cash to do so... As a toy.

I would personally only do so if I could without financing, because depreciation is a bitch...

Sorry chef. Will get back on topic now.
Jeremy's review on it was way too short, we need Tiff for that...

Yeah, depreciation is a bitch! There are going to be lots of M3/M4 owners jumping out of windows in 6-12 months time...

When I went for my track day in my f10 m5 the instructor told me that with a car like this I could take my family for a holiday to Cape Town and on my way there I could stop at at every track, enjoy a few laps and then continue with my journey. He said that's the beauty of the new m cars.
Now why would he advise on having some fun on a track if there was a problem with motor plan.
He works for bmw SA and he gives that advise openly to the entire class.

Can someone post written facts to put this motorplan debate to rest? It's all just hearsay, word of mouth quotes flying around.

I have sent bmw customer service an email at 9:00am-ish asking what their motorplan contract states about track days.

So if the E46 face lift was known as the G-string model...does that mean that the E46 M3 owners were all Cun.... Never Mind... :mmm:

Now that comes from the bmw club who organise the track days and will lose business if they state the motorplan clause.
You will get a way different answer from BMW SA on the subject, they can give you all the info about it and cases where motorplans have been void, but once again, you don't believe me then see for yourself...

Take your m4 around kyalami on the next track day with plates and tax disc visible and prove me wrong then...I will kindly send the pics/video to BMW SA for you...

Now you agree that people can and do exploit their M Cars on the track and there is no instance of motorplan being void as a result. :=):

However, there are few instances of BMW allegedly voiding motorplan due to aftermarket mods.

True

BMW has released M-Laptimer software. Whats the purpose of this software in an M-car? laptime while driving to the shopping mall:tiptoe:

This is from BMW who will void your motorplan '

This application is intended for off-road use on closed tracks only. Always drive safely and do not use this application for speed or high risk driving. Driving the vehicle is solely the responsibility of the driver. Stop the vehicle safely before reviewing the recorded values and results. All values and results may vary due to different conditions and their accuracy cannot be guaranteed.

With the BMW Laptimer app, driving data from the racecourse can be precisely recorded and an analysis can be carried out for improving driving-performance. The recorded information, which falls into categories such as accelerator pedal, steering angle, G-force and best lap time, can be posted as snapshots to Facebook or Twitter, or sent by email.

Back on the topic. This F80 M3 monster has lapped Top Gear tack 4 seconds quicker than E90 M3.

Currently, Lexus RC F competes with M4 around the track. BMW M4 vs. 2015 Lexus RC F – Head 2 Head Ep. 59

There are people who drive their BMW's harder and faster on the road, compared to most on the track.... this is why these cars fly over islands and end up in rivers and ditches...

It would be more realistic for BMW to suspend MP due to actual abuse, they can write software to track this, REV Limit... G-meters...

Driving a car on a track is not necessarily abuse, and should not void MP.

So when your turbo decides to blow up make sure it is not on the race track. If it blows up on the race track push it to the nearest public road, take some pics of it standing there all sad and broken. I would even throw in a pic of you looking at the engine pay(you know the STD procedure when something goes wrong).

So you must look like this then they will help you:

Good work Dewald

Just shows its a Grey Area and BMW may rightfully decline to fix repairs related to track day or any abuse they can prove. It would not make sense motorplan replacing wear items like break pads regularly.

I had a battery claim twice, BMW dealer printed a log to show me the car was being "misused". I told them "tough luck, the car was designed for such use". They replaced the battery twice. Convertible open/close drains battery and car wasn't being driven much to sufficiently charge battery because of short distances I drive to work. Something BMW didn't factor in the design.

"neglect, misuse, abuse or improper treatment of the Vehicle" means just about anything.

Just a note, a trackday needs to be a timed event to be considered competitive use. If you use a trackday to get to know your car and better your own driving skill it is not considered competitive or racing.

I wouldn't take my chances spending a million plus, and then risking being told they will not repair your faulty vehicle because it was on a track or something. We all know BMW customer service is on par with Telkom/Eskom...
