F10 M5 for sale on the gum

This is not a good sign. A brand new car such as the iconic M5 should NOT be on showroom floors as a "forsale item"; they should have been sold at this stage.
There could be many factors such as the price tag but one reason definitely is the absence of "demand". Granted this is not a limited production car, so people could be expecting that they will "always" be around hence the lack of demand at this point.
I think it has the to do with the car itself. It lacks appeal; its struggling to put down huge power at the reef compared to its competitors and it looks like a normal 5 series except for its blue calipers.
Lastly, the initial reception of this car in S.A. has been lukewarm to say the least...

you have to be a bit mad to spend that on a car that is not limited production... just look at what the old M5s are going for now...
In my opinion all M cars should have a limited production figure even if its a high number it will keep resale at better levels...

Well I saw a black GTR yesterday driving in front of me, and I am sold. I couldn't take my eyes off it. It was a thing of beauty, and I am willing to put my love for BMW to one side so that I can drive around in a Datsun ... and what a Datsun it is! The look, the sound, the presence of this car, especially in black. Love it! I hate to say it, and I know the M5 and the GTR are not comparable except in price, but that is what I would spend my money on. (Contrary to what I might have said in previous posts).
Lets also not forget, that for a regular driver there is nothing on the road or track that will keep up under 200km/h

That's Ash Car Sales vehicle, from Pietermaritzburg. They forever selling new vehicle that have waiting lists for them or ones that are unobtainable due to being limited editions (The two 1M's spoken about on the forum for 700k was theirs). Although they have the vehicles, they do sell them at a premium.

The new M5 has to much focus on 5 series luxury and not enough on M Power. The engine note is nice but feels very toned down and misses that "face-melter" element. That being said, it's still a brilliant car oozing with some amazing tech :thumbs:
Also, as mentioned above, unlike the 1M, this car isn't in limited production so there isn't much point in trying to sell them at crazy prices.
I think the new M3 will be the car to look out for. The 3-series in general is looking very very strong. Really want to try these new turbo engines and see if the praise is confirmed.

I think the person who is interested in an ///M5 and the person who is interested in a GT-R is not usually the same person
The driver of a GTR could not care less about the luxury, space, practicality, and Q-car status of the ///M5, whereas the BMW driver values such comforts above the pure performance aspect of the GTR.
Also, to me the GTR, although a technological tour de force, looks like a squared off cheese grater.
And for a two ton sedan to perform the way the M5 does in this video is remarkable.
If you don't directly compare the two, which you shouldn't, as they're two completely different types of car, it does smashingly. Granted, it loses according to Sutcliffe, but to be as close to the GTR as it is, with all the extra weight and comfort features...damn BMW, you've done it again.

It is in my case - both performance cars. I love them both, and I would love to own either one right now, but given an option, the GTR gets my heart beating faster than the M5. If the GTR is a more bumpy ride, I will invest in a kidney belt just so that I can experience the thrill of the GTR every single day! And after seeing the black one on the road yesterday, I would park it in my driveway, get my deck chair, drink and just stare at it for ages. Who needs to buy sea-view / mountain-view properties when you have a black GTR!

Call me crazy but I actually think the pricing is well... pretty well priced for what the car is and what company is hangs around in..
Also maybe in 4 years the price would've plummeted down enough so us mere mortals might have the opportunity of owning one :rollsmile:

I suppose the typical thing of a dealer buying a car that has a waiting list to capitalise on by selling first come first serve...
A friend of mine wanted to buy a GTR when they first hit the market, waiting list took forever and he eventually gave up and lost interest. He still has his Scoobie WRX STI with tons of mods, so probably not too bothered in the end.

The Nissan GTR is a completely different animal. and if I wanted a GTR and had that money I would get a Porsche 911 Gt3. It might not be quite as fast as a Nissan but who cares... park them next to each other and I would go for the Porsche every time.
When is BMW going to make a supercar again?

Very good arguments all round. Different target markets all together. Being me I'd have the GT-R for that money. Then again the Audi R8 V8 looks and sounds better but is behind in all other departments.
