Go to BMW parts, buy 1l over the counter (about R80,00) and top it up.

When the car says add 1l, you can add 1l.

Ours is pretty accurate with that.

Yep, agents still charge you for oil even under motorplan, usually Castrol Magnatec Professional or Engen Syntium 3000 is used - best to go to the agent that normally services your car so that you get the same brand ideally.

What sort of distance has your car done so far on the oil used?

I was under the impression that top up's were covered by motorplan..My wife's 320i needs a top up, I have some Castrol BMW longtech professional 5w30 at home, can i top up with this ? Car is going for a service next month so don't really want to buy a ltr as it's going to get drained out in a few weeks..

Top up with the same grade of oil that was used at the last service . If the car goes for a service soon they might overreact about the oil shortage .

hmmm thats odd..my car only once needed a litre and the service advisor who I knew back then topped it up for free (what I thought was MP)..lol guess I was lucky..but yes go buy the right synthetic from the dealer..don't use the multigrade stuff from the garage where you fill up at..GL

Or, try and find your local Castrol depo - pay something like R55 per litre or so for the exact same 5W-30 BMW LL01 Magnatec Professional that the agents are using now...

Jip. E90 325i likes using a bit of oil. especially when doing a lot of town driving.

My dad's 325 will ask for 1l every 5000 to 8000km depending on how much town driving he did in that time.

Because it is an E90

wasnt aware that they supposed to use oil.
But from what the author says, it wasnt using before (or it was subtly implied due to the surprise which was also implied LOL).

Some engines just use a bit , the limit is normally 1.5 litres per 1000 km , so 1 litre in 6000 km is far from a problem .

I think in general, 1 ltr per 1000 km is considered the max oil consumption limit for more manufacturers these days.

The fact that the oil level sensor has fluctuated from asking for a full 1 ltr to be added to now showing full again, sensor is definitely not to be trusted - best to have it checked out! Worst thing to do is over-fill an engine with oil!

Mine has dropped one quarter position since it was last serviced and has done just over 5000 km, so not too bad.
