As the title suggest.... is it easy/difficult stealing an e36 bmw ???

I'm sure its not like a citi golf where Stevie Wonder can break in and drive off in less then 5 minutes or could I be wrong....

Its pretty easy it happened to my brother about 5 or 6 years ago when he owned an e36. The car was parked semi-secure (there was a carguard in close proximity) anyway the car was gone after about 30 mins.

The best of the story was 5 months later the SAPS calls us and says we found your car but the excitement was short lived...

At the end of the day you can steal even the new bmws if you know what you're doing but to answer your main question, I would it is more difficult to steal an e36 than it is a citi golf but the thiefs have had years to master the method so they have become pretty good.

There has not been a car made that a good theif cannot get away with in 60 seconds with the right equipment.

If you really want to protect it, it's quite easy by cutting off unexpected circuits (non standard) that they won't be looking for such as the crank sensor, and providing an overheat signal to the ECU. you can even fool the ABS into locking up on an engine start as well.

On my 325is I did something like this and ran the wiring through stainless steel brake line in case they randomly wanted to cut wiring.

let me know, and I will design the circuit for you.

keep in mind it is illegal to make an anti theft system that uses the brakes...

a freind of mine with and MK1 golf had a steel plate that flaps up and locks away the pedals... he wanted to fit a camera for if anyone tried to steal the car so he could see the guys expression

She went inside & and was in for a few minutes & realised she forgot something, went out & this lady was getting out of a car where my sister parked.. the lady said ya she waited for this guy to get his car going & drive out the parking that she took...

There's this local urban legend from the 1980's where a guy had like four BMW's stolen in 10 weeks.

When the fith was stolen the police called him the next day and said "Mr X we have found your BMW with four dead bodies in it"

Apparantly he left a bottle of Vodka in the cubby laced with cyanide and was prosecuted for murder and is still in prison, but I don't think he cares.

Its just sad that people do not respect other peoples property, its a shame to see a car in the above state.

About 7 years ago i had a E34 535i and was visiting my cousin in Arcadia, Pretoria. Parked the car in the street, activated the code on the computer and went inside. About an hour later found the drivers door was open (lock forced and broken) and covers around steering/ignition broken and barrel forced. Fortunately they could not get the car to start and left with some biltong and droewors, my jacket and shoes which were in the boot. I turned the ignition on with the screwdriver from the toolkit in the boot and punched in the code and viola, started the car and drove off. Had to keep the door closed with my elbow. Got to my friends place and opened the doorcard and got the lock to work sort of. The next day i drove home to Hermanus like that. Apparantly the gardener of the block of flats saw them arrive, walk up to my car, force the lock and then tried to start it. Guys sitting on the wall on the opposite side of the street did not see a thing!

After the third start attempt the alarm goes off, the guys across the street must have been deaf huh.

can the code in the obc be overridden
i always punch in one
the e36 built after 1995 have transponders fitted so i think it is a bit more difficult to steal
