E90 Power Steering failure???

Hi Guys,

My steering started being stiff on certians turns, then the pump noise started. I cheked the ATF level & the bottle is half full but the level indicator show the level is full.(as it is on the 2nd level)

My car has 88 324 on the clock & has no warranty, BMW want R8000.00 for a new pump, could it be anything else i can try???

Those pumps are bullet proof to the best of my knowledge.

Have you tried a fluid flush/change. Also those pumps are a dime a dozen at the salvage yards, look into them before you go to the agents.

You could also find someone to recon that pump of yours,

If the oil turns black after the flush then the pump is shot. I have the same problem on my E36. I phoned a second spare place and luckily they only want R500.

Dude where did you get it for R500.00, i will 1st try the flush tomorrow!

The pump should be about R4000 fitted at a non BMW workshop. Search on this forum. (It was discussed somewhere here)
