Hi Guys..

I know this topic has been covered so many times, but I cant seem to find a clear answer on this.

Lately my car has been giving a rotten egg smell after driving a bit hard. I looked on the internet and it seems it is a common problem once you hit around 120K..everyone says that the cats in the exhaust has to be replaced. BMW however quoted me a lot of money to replace this.

I am a total noob when it comes to this stuff....some people say you can have the cats removed and replace with a straight pipe or silencer between the sensors.....other say you will have to put in cat foolers.

Im in cape town. Where can I have this done or who do I need to talk to??

Please advise....

Howzit man, not sure about ct but I've done mine in durbs at primaforce.
They put in a straight pipe and added another small silencer to bring the noise down to oem levels. However it does still sound much better. No regrets.

You can go to Power Flow in Bellville area and you can ask them.
Il be going Thursday to ask about the cat and what they can do about it.

If you remove the cats in the manifold, the car will feel a lot quicker..

I had it done here in CT, 2 years ago.

Go and speak to ProFit (Koeberg Rd) or Powerflow Bellville..

Hi Cornel..no other problems but this..I will go to powerflow in bellville after work...I have read somewhere that if you only replace the cats in the exhaust you dont need to install cat foolers...can anyone confirm this?

Hi Guys... No need for cat foolers, I did the decat on my previous 320i. The car does feel a bit quicker but it sounds like a golf mk1 with a freeflow. The computer never complained but the idling was effected and a few other things. I eventually installed cat foolers (wildcat) but it didn't make much of a difference. Should I ever do another decat I will replace the whole system and make it sound like a standard 320 and take it for dyno. Your car is setup to perform to its best with the cat, now you take it out and the computer can only set itself within slight changes, Not such a massive change

I have removed my cat on a few cars and it's always louder and faster... You might need a tune afterwards as my consumption jumped up on all my cars...

Paid R500 for resonator, brospeed, and sorted most of my noise issues...

Seeing as you guys are cape town based, we need support sunday 20 October for those not on the list yet as well as bmwccct.

2K?? you serious?

The guys here in CT say R350

R350 would be about the going rate for removing the centre CATS and replacing with a straight pipe.

R2000 would be a larger job of removing the CATS on the downpipe and repacing with CAT-foolers
