E46 Pulleys

Guys, to those who have bought the 3 pulleys for the main belt from Bmw, about how much did it cost?
I think I may need to change mine.

I'm getting a funny noise of something spinning incorrectly if that makes sense. It's coming from the around the exhaust side of the head.

Any guesses?

Could it be the water pump?

Thanks

I was in the same boat and I replaced 2 of them and realised it was the power steering. I've still got the original 2 if you want to test with, they aren't making a noise.

Got my old water pump that I changed proactively, you can borrow that as well.

I think the tensioner and idler pulley was around R1100. If you would like to borrow my parts to localise the fault drop me a pm. It's quite easy to swap then over and then you can buy the parts from the agents once you know what u need.

Bit of bad news for Christmas morning. Almost certain my water pump is shot. It's making a scary sound. Got the car parked off and need to get it towed to Gizmo.

Guys I need to sort out asap.

Any idea where I can get a pump on Saturday?

Which pump should I get?

Another thing is, I need a second opinion as I am diagnosing on my own and could be wrong.

How can I be certain it's the pump?

Pull off the belt and run the pulley by hand, if it's that loud when the engine is running then you should be able to hear it when you turn it by hand.

Big thank you to Luben for coming all the way to my house with his baby and helped me to take off the water pump which clearly is the problem.

In my experience you can silence the tensioner pulley with a squirt of Q20, but that is not a fix. The squeak will be back, just like the Terminator. But it serves to identify the source of the noise.

used the same methodology on my E36 325i many many years ago
also had a squeeking - screetching noise, used the Q20 with the long thin straw-like nozzle attachment, and systematically accurately targeted individual components that rotate or have bearings.
once the noise ceased I knew where the problem lies, in my case it was the tensioner/idler.
so rather than just replacing component after component, rather positively identify the source.
the Q20 method also last for about a week or two noise free
