have a look on e46fanatics im sure there are plenty 1/4 mile times up... you could also probably find out what you need to do to get your 300kw...

you will probably get a whole lot of nasty comments with the useful info because the site seems heavily populated with trolls

Not sure if there will be that much change in the 1/4 mile time, from what I have read the time usually doesn't change due to the extra gear change that is needed, though on the M3 this might not be a issue due to the engine revving higher.

The tests I did before and after the diff swap on my 330i were in gear acceleration, say something like 40 - 100km/h or 60 - 120km/h times, with these you have see the biggest and most definite difference.
I a very unscientific test I found the 40 - 100km/h in 3rd gear time of my car was reduced from 9.9s to 8.3s (this is with going from 2.93 - 3.38 ratio)

Thanks for the info. I wonder which of the NA cars' times are at sea level and which at altitude?

I did a few 14 mile runs at Pietersburg tonight, as I want to get comparitive figures for when the new 3,91 ratio dif is fitted. Stats as folllows: road GPS confirmed zero gradient, normal road tyres + 18" rims, ambient temp 22 degrees C, 95 octane fuel, altitude 1260m above sealevel.

Measuring equipment: FX 2 Accelerometer
1/4 mile time 13,5 seconds, 0-100 5,2 sec (corrected from 60mph to 64mph)
Quickest previous E46 M3 time tested was 5,6 second same road similar conditions.

Can anyone give an idea what gains on these figures I can expect with the 3,91 diff when fitted?

Sorry for the typing error, I meant 1/4 mile runs

I do not think you are using the right method to measure any form of gain your car is going to achieve. The quarter mile is all about the first 60ft. If your traction is excellent (see prepared race track with drag slicks) you can cut a low 13 with a stock car. The diff plays a major roll if you can get first gear to hook up and put all the power on the road. I have actually moved to the longest diff I could find to make my 335 affective in first gear. Anything shorter it would spin out of control.
On a rolling gun the shorter diff comes into its own. You have more torque put on the road due to the shorter gears per km/h increment.

That really makes sense, the tyres do take a good few metres before they bite and stop spinning, especially with launch control. I am going to try again with a milder gearbox setting and in auto mode and see if the time improves.

I am planning on getting an extra set of rims with bridgstone semislicks for track days, I think they will also help to cut time.

I rechecked the strip I tested on and found that it starts off as level but at 150 it starts to run slightly uphill. I searched for other level sections and found one which does not gain or loose 1m over approx 500m, on the N1 just outside Pietersburg, no cross roads and 2 lanes in each direction. A perfect sretch of road to test in both ways. I will retest shortly and post times.

I also checked my 60 feet time, 1,97sec which does'nt seem to bad compared with the faster NA car times above.

you need to do front and rear strut towers as well as the front and rear subframe mounts minimum...

the rear is normally where the trouble starts so do that 1st then do the front...

M3M5POWER has been fixing damage cause by hard driving if you have not seen his thread have a look

I've been of the air for most of the week, finalized no less than 8 court cases in 5 days, it was just hectic. The thread you refered me to in your last post has 64 pages, it's a mission to read through all of them on the cellphone. What page can I look at to see the mods that will strengthen the car?

Or can you just give me a basis list of items I can consider to modify please?

basically it had lots of rips in the chassis that are now fixed :)

this should cover most of the weak points:
E46 Front Subframe Reinforcement Kit
Rear Shock Tower Mount Reinforcement Kit
Turner Motorsport Camber Arm Reinforcement Kit
E46 Rear Chassis/Subframe Reinforcement Kit

If you going to be drag racing alot and running very grippy tires you will need to do alot of bracing at the rear also... for a street car that is not driven very hard all the time these plates should be sufficient...

you dont have to weld the plates in ether there are glues special made to bond metal that actually perform better than welds and it also preserves the rust treatment inside your chassis... look at the cars used for the dakar they all glued together now the only areas the weld are where outdated regulations say it has to be welded...

when you ready to put the plates in PM me about the glue if you want to go that way i would not weld unless you already have cracks...

I had great fun on Saturday, the new mall in Pietersburg had it's 1 year birthday party and the management invited Audi to do a promotion. The local dealer invited the Audi advanced drivers' team who pitched up with a dou of new S4's. Two drivers of which one was the Brittish racing driver, now staying in SA, Steven Morris, took members of public through a blitz course including slalom, lane change under braking, lane change during acceleration, fast sweeps and othe handling displays.

I actually went to the mall late Friday to buy some CD's when I noticed the action in the northern corner of the parking lot. I clean forgot about the CD's and walked over to the Audi tent to greet all the familiar salemen and -ladies. I was duly invited for a free drive with one of the advanced drivers, "to drive myself?", I asked. No sir, as passenger, came the reply from the bubbly blonde sales lady....?!

Eisj, if you're a rally and racing driver yourself, you don't want to sit in the left seat, or is it only me feeling that way. Luckely I already knew the S4 and it's very capable performance and roadholing, from a thorough test drive I had with one last year. So, I declined but I came up with another plan...I'll sommer do my own advanced driving sommer with my own M3. The appointment was set for the following morning at 9am, just before the Audi team would continue with their show! :ty:

I was so exited, I couldn't sleep that night, I memorised the lines through the course and really couldn't wait to show what the old E46 M3 and I could do.

So I arrived, did 2 laps at medium pace to warm the car up and let ouboet join me. No he did go with Steven Morris in a flyer of a lap in the one S4 the preevious afternoon, so I was looking forward to his reaction after my hot lap with him next to me.

I did the first lap with DSC activated just to show ouboet that old M3 could also controll slip and slide through the fast lane change. But the DSC was a bit inhibiting from the pullaways and the hairpins, so I decided to do another round but with DSC deactivated.

I really pushed the second lap but still concentrated to be smooth as well. The car behaved great and ouboet smiled al the way. Then kleinboet got in and I repeated the lap 3 times, first with DSC on, then I thought I would switch it off for the second lap, then again I thought I want to go really fast through the fast lane change and around the sharp righthand sweep, and reactivated the DSC, well so I thought.

I sent it through the slalom and all the other stuff and really went for the fast sweep. The car stayed poised and neutral all the way, without any interruption by the DSC. When I stopped, I saw the flippen DSC was still off in stead of on, I reallised I did not hold the button in long enough to reactivate the system.

Then ouboet and Mr Morris walked up to the car, while Mr Morris was smiling and rubbing his hands together, ouboet said: Pa, oom Steve soek graag 'n spin in ons M3! I asked him: "would you like to take the M3 for a spin? Yeah please, I would be much greatfull if I may". So I got out and into the left seat while Steve buckled up. I said to him to go with DSC activated the first lap and then we could deactivate it for the 2nd. Off we went.

Steve is a real capable racing driver for sure as he handled the rear wheel drive as if he was employed by BMW. The second lap came and DSC was off!! This time he really banged it. The bugger stepped onto the gas aggressively out of one corner and drifted it wildly. The next three corners and the fast sweep was also done sideways.

When we stopped, he could not stop describing how great the E46 M3 is and even though 11 years old, it would still compare with of the best there is on the road today. He did acknowledge though that the back side of the car stepped out very quikely the first time he stepped onto the loud peddal and it nearly cought him out! "The car is só controllable if the power is fed in gradually, great fun, thanks a lot, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I still wonder what his colleagues were thinking when he complemented the M3 as he did. Later that day I went back for some more sideways fun.

And guess what, I had new Accelera tyres fitted to the rear and they did great!!

I will try to add a pic of Steven Morris, myself and my the best 6 cylinder sportscar in the world!

Ha Ha!

That is awesome man, if only you had a pic of the laid-out track for us to see!

Ahh, would love to do that as well!

It is easy to copy the track layout, but we can do a new layout as well and bring in additional turns and exiting stuff, maybe we could have a type of gymkana day at the Limpopo Mall, same venue and get the local BMWguys to join us and maybe also sponsor the day. Would you guys be interested?

Let us make up a list of all who would join us for such a fun day.

E46 M3 is just the best!!:inlove:
