it is

in cape town, the land of nice thick power giving air, stock E46 M3's make about 220-230 kw on the flywheel

adding 70-80kw on a daily driver, hmm, that is nearly a 33% increase

Your car sounds SSSSick Kabal!!!:inlove:

@Piet, jy maak my jaloers met daai ///M, :inlove:

Sankekurn where will I start to search for the lower ratio diff components?

Kabal, you guys are really privilaged to have the "thick-air" benifit of driving at sealevel.

Xack, I appreciate the compliment! Here in my hometown, even old tannies freeze in their steps when I floor the M3. Let me tell you how crazy my family and I are about the RGM-created induction sound of the car. Let me put it like this, the sound alone was worth all the money I had payed RGM for all the mods done!!!
:joy:

Tuesday the rain was pouring at Ebenezer Dam, 65km's east of Pietersburg(or Polokane as the ANC now calls it), where we are spending our December holidays. By then I had smuggled my M3 to the dam as well. Three days prior I drove back to town with the Fortuner to go and buy a new fishing rod that snapped as I reeled in a nice bass. (There were still 9 other rods left on the boat). I never planned to return to the dam with the Toyota. Luckily my wife called just before I returned to the Dam, "Liefie, jy sal ni glo wat het gebeur nie, die Gammon wat ek vir krismis ete gekoop het is af, dit vrot toe ek die plêstiek oopsny, kan jy v my n nuwe een by die slaghuis optel asb, dan kry jy sommer baie kersies op jou koek by my!!"

Great, the varkrol is a gonner, and I've got the best reason to have come to town!! Any way, as the rain moved in big time, we moved out. Coisman, the carstuff is comming right now, just hold back the editing.

Close to town I could not hold out any more. I was then driving the Hi-Lux and Dol was driving her "ware liefde", the M3!!

:inlove:
I called my oldest son, Tertius who's with mom: Boet, as ons by n robot stop, stop regs agter die bakkie. As die lig groen slaan, moet ma daai kar brand. Sport aan en DSC af, operate jy die ratte. Gee ons so 30 tree dan kom julle verby, EK WIL HOM HOOR!!

And that's what happpened at 6 robots, kleinboet and me just could not get enough! Liefie was smiling under the hot flushes and eagerly repeated the show at each robot. Before stopping at home I called ouboet again: sê vir ma sy moet anderkant om die blok ry. Ons stop solank voor die huis, as sy om die hoek kom moet sy hom brand......guess what, this was repeated no less than three times!

Jis Coisman, I hope I don't get suspended after this lengthy story.

Guys, you asked for a bunch of pics of the car. Well, I'll try to get it on a lift to take a pic of the RGM de-cat exhaust, and a nice videoclip of the car going sideways, and won't be the Stig, it will be yours truly!!

Watch this space....

Thanks for the detail of the diff guys, I'll call them this week.I diced a 335i cabrio driven by an windgat indian guy who waved his hand like in"come on bro, catch me if you can. Dammit man, I couuld'nt get past the 335i

As I hooked 3rd, we had to slack down for the next robot. That's when my wife said: "jy moet nou die special cams en diff kry, die windgat indiaan, eks nou sommer kwaad vir hom!" I must say we were 4 in the car.

Does Turner motorsport have a good reputation for quallity work?

I am looking for a 3.91 diff for the E46 M3, Sankekur mentioned Turner motorsport, but they are in England. Anywhere in SA where I can get one?, please help.

I spoke to a performance guru (Won't mention names) who is of the opinion that cams for the E46 M3 being reprofiled for better performance, or even new high performance cams won't work for a normally aspirated engine at high altitudes (such as PTA and JHB) and that one would even loose power instead of gaining some!! This sounds absurd to me

Any advice on this issue or local cam wizzards whoM I can speak to?

speak to chiplogic they really know how to make these cars work (look at all the records they currently hold for NA M3s) they will give you the right advise...

Well there are lot of M3's (NA) racing at track days, it might be worthwhile to actually chat to the guys hear what they have done and where they got stuff, or they might have old stuff that they have upgraded from that you could buy from them.

PM Bac on the forum. I remember him saying he had a 3.91 diff.
As for the cam – some of what that guy said is true and some are absolute nonsense.
A longer duration, higher lift cam (wilder cam) will make more power in the upper RPM range, irrespective of altitude. End of story.
However, on the M3 that already has fairly wild cams as stock, you will definitely gain HP and the torque might even stay the same although it will shift from lets say Max torque at 360Nm @ 5000RPM std to max torque still at 360Nm @ 6500RPM. Because HP/KW(power) is the multiplication of torque and engine speed, the power figures will improve, although your but dyno will feel exactly the same since the torque would most likely not improve. This also means that if you are driving on the highway in 6th gear @ 120 and you floor it, the car WILL accelerate slower with the wild cams compared to stock.
This lack of low down torque with wild cams are also much more pronounced at higher altitude.

PS - if it were me, i would not do it. If it were a golf, Ford or nissan then hell yeah, because there are much room for improvement, but not really on a Motorsport BMW :nonono:

Fordkoppie, dankie vir die advies, jys nogal nie 'n dom ou nie!

Ek spot net met jou.

Ek wil graag kyk of ek by 300kW kan uitkom sonder om die vanos funksie te verloor, daar moet nog ruimte vir ekstra kW's wees.

Laat ek van julle slim manne hoor asb!:ty:

Raai wat manne, my ou 2001 M3 (met RGM mods) het vanaand n jong windgat Indiaan se nuwe V8 M3 n les geleer! Check for my new thread "E46 M3 v V8 M3":joy:

After proper research, and a visit to the guys of Powerbrake, I decided to fit the Powerbrake GT kit to the front of mt M3.

It will have fast street high performance ppads for road use and race pads for track days

I spoke to one of the NA M3 race car drivers at the last Zwartkops raceway, January 2012. He had a stock motor, 2003 model, but the entire car body was carbon fibre... That was his trick, making the car lighter.

Could maybe work for you... I dunno the cost implications, but less weight for the car to haul makes sense.

I did a few 14 mile runs at Pietersburg tonight, as I want to get comparitive figures for when the new 3,91 ratio dif is fitted. Stats as folllows: road GPS confirmed zero gradient, normal road tyres + 18" rims, ambient temp 22 degrees C, 95 octane fuel, altitude 1260m above sealevel.

Measuring equipment: FX 2 Accelerometer
1/4 mile time 13,5 seconds, 0-100 5,2 sec (corrected from 60mph to 64mph)
Quickest previous E46 M3 time tested was 5,6 second same road similar conditions.

Can anyone give an idea what gains on these figures I can expect with the 3,91 diff when fitted?

Sorry for the typing error, I meant 1/4 mile runs
