Hi Gents,

Want to replace my water pump soon hopefully by the end of the month.

My question is do i got OEM (BMW) or can i get one from the likes of Masterparts, Midas, Autozone or Goldwagen?

If i should settle for an aftermarket one, which brand would you guys recommend and from which shop should i get it.
I was recommended by a guy that works for SMG to get the Masterparts one its good and much cheaper.

Thoughts please:ty:

my waterpump failed a few years back have only done about 40k on it and used one of these autozone el cheapos as i broke down in cato ridge on my way back from durbs was stuck there the whole day but so far so good!

i called the stealership for a waterpump for my pops e46 yesterday they quoted me 1500 which sounds high. these days they go for 300-600 for aftermarket

i suppose if you want to play it safe and get oem 1500 is still not too much cash

oem used to have a plastic impeller and the aftermarkets had metal and i always read that oem plastic impeller was rubbish but i have also read that the plastic one lasts just as long so im not sure maybe some the guys here can add to that? perhaps now the oem is metal not sure, when mine went it siezed anyway the impeller didnt break or antyhing

The water pump will eventually go weather you use an OEM one or not as it uses wear and tear parts like rubber o-rings, bearings and impellars that are all bound to go at some stage as they have to withstand high and low temps everytime you start your car and have water with chemicals in it running through it on a daily basis which is one of the most corrosive substances on the planet.

I would recomend going to autozone as thats where I went and they gave me a choice of two water pumps and let me check each one out to see the quality difference! I took the metal one as it just felt more solid. It never failed and I drove the car with it for at least 20k km before I sold it, the new guy has driven the car for over a year and still hasn't had any shit with it either so it must be pretty solid.

Can't comment on what's best for BMWs, but I trust masterparts for parts. I try to stick to genuine as far as possible, but recently bought their waterpump for my OPC and no problems at all. They sell a brand called Dolz for waterpumps.

Phone Imcomex Cape Town - very helpful group, and they are one of the main suppliers for Meyle. I'm sure you will get a better price on the water pump from them.

Had a 02 320i and the bearings for water pump failed at 290k when I took it out it was a OEM one with a BMW badge, replaced it with an ECHLIN brand from Midas as I was stone broke. car has been in use for 2 years since without a problem. The agents wanted R1800 for a replacement. I think Goldwagen has good equivalent spares competitively priced.

Hi there

I bought the Meyle one for my 318i a few years back it leaked out the box from new. Just saying.....

I am planning a very detailed cooling system overhaul and spent ages putting the attached together. Perhaps all you 330 owners can find value in it too - hope you can all read it ?

I have bought a GMB pump form Midas and will get an agents one too, when I do the job, I'll compare and choose which one I'll use and simply return the one I don't use.

Thank you for sharing...

So what now:argh:, seems the Meyle pumps are suspect.
I am ruling out the possibility of just one bad pump but what if i also end up with a bad pump hmmm, dont feel like being a genie pig.:nonono:
