Has he check your PCV, what is the mileage on your car, mine has 166000km's!

Mileage is around 150k - PCV and all other possible oil leak places have been checked and sealed - hope to get car today

Okay, changed the cam cover gasket yesterday, drove from Bruma in peak hour traffic this morning and no smoke from the back.

How would a bad cam cover gasket cause smoking from the exhaust?

Maybe it has some affect on the breathing - I'm replacing this gasket with the head job anyway so we'll see.

Right. Just got the car back with head job done. Idled the car for 5 mins and then revved it hard - not a bit of smoke coming from the exhaust - its even idling quieter. Not bad for R4000.00 methinks.:joy:

Let me know if anyone needs this work done in CT - I will point you in the right direction.

R 4000 is a good price for a head job, how was the head set?

Master parts - valve seals, guides, gaskets and headbolts - R1900.00
Vasco Motor Engineering - valve work - R570.00
Eagle Auto - head remove and fit - R1500.00
Oil and filter - R300.00
Did not need to skim head only light polish.

Eagle Auto gave me a discount cos I send a lot of work their way - not sure if Vasco gave a discount - so cheap I didn't argue.

Okay finally know the reason for the smoking, 2 oil rings broken. The head is at the engineers getting back on Monday, putting new rings and bearings in on Saturday.
Will keep you posted

Turns out there was nothing wrong with the head or the valve stem seal. The problem was the rings.

Done the head anyway hopefully starting the car the weekend.

I have not had mine repaired, wanting to diy but do not have the timing tools, besides oil consumption, put in new plugs 3 months due to a miss and then again last weekend, getting really bad, valve stem seals defnitely needs to be done.

Hi there and welcome to the forum. Can't point you anywhere, not my part of the world, but I'm sure you'll have plenty of referrals shortly. Twinz, I'm sure can help you, try a pm his way. Sounds like a turbo problem, perhaps combined with engine wear/damage. What is the km reading? Good luck, hope it's not TOO expensive. Be prepared, THIS FORUM LOVES PICS, please post up a few of your ride.

its an N42 engine, it pisses oil

Tappet cover, VVT sensor,, pretty much everything... is going to leak... fix it :)

Yip been there done that and I agree and I just fixed another oil leak on my siters car today(Sump Gasket), It just does not stop. I replaced nearly every O'ring. I think its also time to replace your breather system for it tends to clog up. remember if you touch the breather system to replace the simple O'ring on the Dipstick tube. Tapet cover Gascket, Vacuum pump O'ring where it fits into the head. the Vacuum pump itself by using the oil filter oring to repair it. Now its leak free again :joy:

Cheapes head job in JHB. Thats expensive. From what I hear you can get it near carnivore's much cheaper.:rollsmile:

But did not notice any ask if the Cat was removed?
Are you sure it is the N42 and not the N46 engine?

Gopher only started to do a bit of smoke around 175 000k and my was rings.

Hi, can you please point me in that direction as I'm having a smoking issue as well. My wheels also just has no power and a really rough idle that almost rocks the car. Any assistance would be most appreciated. Thanks
