E36 M3 turbo rebuild

Interesting outcome, so all its doing is making a little more than stock power at the wheels? Sav’s cars all run locked Vanos, I went for a drive in an E36 M3 Turbo recently which makes 300wkw at kar and the power band is identical, dead till about 3000rpm 3500 you can feel something happening and 4000rpm all hell breaks loose at 0,8bar boost.

My thinking is going with a slightly smaller exhaust housing and bigger injector’s turn up the boost to 0.8bar and she should be happier. I see the rev limit is also dropped to 7000rpm so even if power drops from 6500 with a smaller exhaust you still have a more “Usable” power band.

Actually, the few cars of Sav that ive worked on or saw all had the vanos in place with the standard ECU piggy backed by the perfect power SMT, Maybe more recently he started locing the vanos...

Maybe so... but even on a stage 1 car that setup does not work

If you are going to disable the vanos it is advisable to change cams to accommodate low down torque.

Even if cams are reset it is a compromise at best with the car feeling rather anemic at under 5k.

imho

Why not set the intake cam 10deg advanced.

This will definitely increase bottom end torque and will only taper off after 6000.

Turbo will spool up faster because valve overlap is increased

Looking good thus far.

What I wanted to ask is that is there any way to get around the "no aircon" issue?

bloody hell.. I am out of bounds for a few days and I miss out on so much.
Gizmo - much respect to you and your awesome work. from what started as a turbo E36 that was butchered to something of elegance. I am aware that you not done but damn, she is looking like a stock M3 again.

really really good work. awesome stuff..

On a side note, Im not happy with the tuning, the car battles to start, backfires sometimes while trying to start and the car won't idle properly. The backfires are so loud they would impress Eldorado Park residents...scared the crap out of my dogs and cats too, not cool. I have booked the car in for Wednesday so they can sort this sh!t out. Im not sure if its tuner or ECU or both, I still think we would be better off with the original Bosch management, but that's just me...

Warren, you do some very good work, but comments like these are in bad taste.

Agree, WTF does Gizmo know about what would impress Eldorado Park Residents ? Has he ever been a resident there ?

As far as I know, Eldorado Park residents will not be impressed by their pets being scared the crap out as well.

Comment in bad taste.

Gizmo...
Many of the chaps on this forum are fans of your work, and rightly so, it always good and well detailed. I too am a fan.

However, comments like those above just dont cut it. While many people on this forum may not understand the hurt felt by those that were affected by the past feel when we read this, we at least ask you chaps to respect it. Please read before pressing the enter button, what may seem insignificant to others when it comes race, is important to the rest of us because we have a past that has molded us this way..... there's no getting away from it.

I'm sure you didn't mean any harm by the comment, as I've met you in the past on numerous occasions and you dont come across as a racist. A simple , HEARTFELT, apology here would be fine.

Apologies for the derail, but I had to get it off my chest.
