frustration here is that I cant find details anywhere on the sender and gauge specs.

Is there a difference between ohm vs temp readings for different sender in models i.e could the cluster be incompatible?

I have no idea. I've never heard that the clusters differ, accept the alpina clusters. You could try and see if you can find the part numbers of the cluster on realoem.com for your car model and a newer E30 model and compare them.

I have heard that the sensor could corrode and the more it corrodes the more resistance it will have and that will give you an incorrect temp reading. :dunno:

thanks. I will check it out. It's a new sensor but will check the gauge and cluster part numbers. Good suggestion

it's been awhile but here is the latest update. An electronic engineering friend is building a linear converter for me that will sort out the temp gauge.
Changed control arm bushes and made no difference. Going to do shock mounting next.
Will keep you posted.
