Continued...

Meanwhile I was bored so started removing the "Wicked Eyes" and the tape holding them on. What a pain!

After several hours the tension was building, I wanted to see the paintwork complete and with the promise that I would fix any other issues on the paint I pulled the car outside:

I was extremely happy with the quality of spraywork, the colour match was perfect, no orange peel and beautiful clarity.

Coming up we do a two day detail on the beast before final touch ups, little finishes and of course delivery to the client.

So, what do the fanatics have to say?

BMW 4.8 Litre Hamann | Update | Detailing the green machine

It has been a while since I updated this thread so here we are, detail time.

With the spraywork, modifications and all issues resolved it was time for us to prepare the car for sale by giving it a Full Two Day Definitive Detail, followed by some final touches and then delivery.

The detail started early:

After giving the mag wheels a thorough clean with some light degreaser and brushes, I hosed the car down before foaming, followed by a quick hand wash to remove any excess dirt.

The Hamann was then clayed using a fine clay, with maxi suds as a lubricant. The contamination was reasonable leaving a perfect smooth finish.

Because of the early start, there wasnt much sun (and due to the weather) so here is just a faint idea of the paintwork.

SAM_4425.jpg

I decided to go for a firm Flexi Pad, using Chemical Guys No 1 Compound working in three layers at low speed. This proved highly successful and what was immediately noticeable was how dry the paint was. Pass after pass the paint just soaked up all the oil in the polish, going from dull to rich and glossy.

Take a look at this 50/50 and compare the colour and depth. After on the left and before on the right:

Mid correction, a bit of sunlight!

The right rear and front doors were showing signs of severe orange peel and dullness, for this I was a bit more aggressive removing quick a bit of clear in order to bring back some depth and shine, a quick 50/50:

I was simply astonished by the way the colour on the car had changed during correction, the car almost had a pearl feel to it.

Some more correction work, unrefined:

Happy with the level of correction achieved, I pulled the car into the sun for a final inspection:

Here are a few shots of the before and after of the exhaust pipes:

With the major paintwork out of the way I then continued to wet vacuum the interior, carpets and condition the leather.

The bodywork was glazed for added shine, sealed with Ultimate Top Coat Sealant and the trim was dressed as well as arches and tyres.

In the next installment, we finish up with a quick photoshoot, some finer details and deliver the Hamann to its new home.

Thank you everyone for the amazing comments and feedback.

I would like to point out that although I often perform miracles on paintwork there are always limitations. Sometimes it is not possible to get that perfect finish.

With the Hamann I think we got it spot on. Great finish, amazing quality and an amazing car.

The Hamann and the lovely 645Ci are for sale, a R2500 spotters fee is yours if you can provide a successful buyer.

Will get the final pics and finish up this thread later today.

BMW X5 4.8 Litre Hamann | Final Update | Project Complete

Well, although the car was delivered a few weeks back I have finally got the time to complete this thread and to bring this project to a close.

With the repairwork, updates and detailing complete it was time to present the final product to the client as well as do some final finishing touches.

I love this part of the project because these are the things which really make a difference.

So first up was a "Hamann" numberplate, in case those looking didnt know that this is the only Hamann X5 4.8 Litre in the country.

SAM_4561.jpg

To finish it off further I re-attached the "Wicked Eyes" and then off to a photoshoot!

And finally, delivered to the showroom floor to be sold to a future Hamann owner.

This project has been fantastic, working on a rare car and being able to experience the 4.8 Litre growl as well as the road presence this machine has. I am overwhelmed by this experience and it has motivated me to take my business in a new direction, not just detailing but entire projects and the managing thereof.
