I got my dad's e28 528i in Delphin metallic to rebuild. After 1 000 000 km (Yes that's correct ) he managed to snap a con rod and that got driven into the block.
We managed to get another block from a scrap yard and the car runs ok now. It stood for 3 whole years after this because my father asked the mechanic to sell it but he instead started stripping. I collected the car recently and it has been standing for a year or so with me.
After a brand new prop shaft(BMW), AFM(BMW), clutch kit, a service and a little bit of work I finally got it running a month or so ago!
Body needs some work, I am looking for new bumpers and seats, preferably from an M5. Even replica's will do. Then she must go for dents and a paint job.
Current Problems:
- All rear lights not working, looking for right rear light cluster
- one or two of the windows not working properly but, I suspect contacts are worn. I know how to sort that out. It's getting done this weekend
- Idles like someone's playing with the accelerator, sometimes revving it will stop this
- Once its warm, the engine sometimes dies for a few seconds and comes back on again, this happens irregularly,Ii have no idea what's causing it.
- The only thing on the cluster that works is the speedometer, and lights, rev count just stands at random points, temperature and fuel guages don't work
- I am also looking for a clutch master cylinder, the car stood with the gearbox in the boot all that time, this caused the slave to leak and eventually the master. We cleaned the inside with some sand paper and installed a repair kit. The clutch works ok but I lose pressure if I keep it in for anything over 3 seconds and the car starts moving if in gear. Believe it or not I went to BMW and they gave me the wrong part. Part number: 2152156002 does not fit the e28 See item 1 The other one is only available on back order which means it's not returnable so I didn't go ahead with the order and took my money back
If anyone knows the cause to any of these problems and or the solutions, the help will be appreciated. Sourcing a clutch master cylinder is of utmost importance right now! Need to sort all of these out before restoring the outside
