The e46 is back up and running. Gearbox is still making noises, it will be replaced when it gives up.  I took the car to Brilliant Mechanical Workshop in CT and I was pleased with their service. I decide to replace as much I can and have them review the car to suggest further parts to be replaced. I also had the diff swapped with 3.38 from a 330ci. Monday it is going into the have a modern radio fitted and some new speakers to compliment the sub woofer.

I am glad to have it back as my daily, the mx5 is great to drive but it sucks as a daily. It is just not comfortable enough, also the roof leaks, it get really hot inside and needs TLC badly.

I am also very pleased with the headlights, will upload videos later via my pc.

Today we will be doing a short shift kit (amazon one), unfortunately it did not arrive with with the plastic pin bush, o-rings and circlip. So need turn the bush on the lathe and then go buy some stuff. If time allows I will swopping the side mirrors with black ones. And hopefully reslove my cellphone mount and charger cable routing as well.

Apparently pipes like those could keep C19 away.

Looking good DB !

Thank you Hman, will definitely keep those pipes then.

There is a drone at 2500rpm so might just do my own J pipe design to cancel it out, for the rest it sounds mooi to me.

Also dusted off the old Hero 3 GoPro - any suggestions on a mic for this little guy which will help improve the sound quality?

Hey Sash, a lot did happen (finally).

The exhaust sounds really muted on the video, it is a lot louder in the flesh :fencelook:.

And like Firi mentions when it gets up to 4000rpm and beyond it does have a racecar - ish exhaust sound which I really enjoy.

I will see if I can head out to Bains kloof and get a video of the BMW there. That is one epic bit of carving.

Update on the BMW it is leaking oil from the rear main seal so once the the world is back from the festive season break, I will be taking it back the mech for them to sort it out. Also the left CV seems to be losing grease.  :dunnoanymore:

Mean while I am getting ready to do the following on the MX5, next week.

Fk coilovers (this is for an NB so wil need different top mounts etc).
Install full gasket set to avoid fluid loss (will need to pull the engine for this)
New waterpump
Brake caliper rebuild (imported kit) and new disks and pads
Install aftermarket front lip

Fortunately, I have a mate (same guy who found this and twisted my arm to buy it) who is absolutely mx5 mad and he knows them pretty well. Between the two of us we should be able to get it done

The e82 is still doing its thing, no problems. It will also receive a basic service and inspection next week between working on the mx5. It is just over 50xxxkm now, which is nothing for 2011 car :smilebounce:

Challenge for the weekend is wash and polish the BMW's they so badly need it.  :fencelook:

Nice work BD.

Gopro - you need an external mic and adapter.
The unit itself has a kak mic.

Nice exhaust tone; especially on down shifts and acceleration.

You don't simply forget you're a racecar driver once you've moved to the Kaap, hey Mr. no mercy Basson   :tiptoe:

No mercy Basson ha ha, I haven't heard that in a while.

I am very keen to go punish the mx5 around the track once it is sorted.

First BMW done, 2020 being 2020 I think drove the e82 2 or 3 times last year. Having spent a few hours on it today, I realized that I have forgotten what a gem this car actually is. It has given us no issues so far. It has taken some knocks but we fixed those last year and honestly it is still so neat both the exterior and interior. Best part it is only 52xxxkm now  :smilebounce:.

I do think it needs a few cosmetic mods  :fencelook:

Anyway some pics of now washed, clayed and polished e82.

Mx5 is coming along well.

We have decided due time constraints and we believe that major leaks are coming from the top of the motor, that the motor won't be pulled. However we are replacing as much seals/gaskets as we can. We will be finishing off the motor during the course of the weekend or early next week. Also order some other ods and ends, new belts and thermostat etc.

The coilovers, disks and pads are in. A little bit of adjustment and it rides much beter than cut spring BS that was installed by the previous owner.

It has also become very evident that those poor car has not received much love in the past few years. I hope to "rescue" the little miata.  :smilebounce:

Once we the motor is back together I will have to do coolant flush to remove al build before giving it some antifreeze.

And then the next "mod" is to insulate the cabin from the running gear heat. The heat shields and insulation is gone or dead, 30mim of driving and it feels like a oven inside top down or up.

Some pics

Wow! This is coming along so nicely DB!

Such a guy chick magnet now!!!

Trying its best to lure the Z4/944 hairdressers crowd  :smilebounce:

I must admit, obviously I have seen the kit in images but seeing the car go from a relatively cute faced machine to a way more aggressive face because of it being lower and adding the lip, feels like massive difference.

Sidenote the the e46 short shift kit is about half the travel length compared to the stock mx5 throw. And it is know to be short  :smilebounce:
