Even with these small hiccups. You've got the bulk of the work done. You're on the home stretch now.

Henry I guess that is what most frustrating.

On a positive note we have installed the throttle bodies as the gaskets arrived and now the motor comes off the engine stand for mating with g/box and wiring harness.

We shall complete the assembly whilst on jack stands and all things being equal it should be in the car over the weekend.

Whether we shall be able to start it or not may well depend on us having all the S/C "stuff".

We shall see.

A little video just to get you guys ready for this weekend, as we mate the engine back into the body, and hopefully fire her up.

Thanks for following the build.

PS. Try watch it in 1080P full HD.

Thanks Moranor. I sat with Peter yesterday, and he had already started some of the shims. Let me tell you, the precision at which this man works baffles me. It's as if he is addicted to precision. The intake valve clearances are all 0.20.

EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. They are all the same. I mean he actually sat there and measured each one to ensure he could get the same size. He need not do it, but he did.

Crazy... but awesome.

Its not crazy, just doing it right so 20 000km down the road you do it again to see if any variances. If the book says that amount then that is what they bladdy will be...

Well this is a first for me Gizmo, because not even Tune Tech, or Sav Speed, or BMW make the clearances all the same. Their mantra is, as long as its in tolerance, then its fine.

So I am happy to see Peter do it right.

this is how all high performance engines should be built and the kind of work I would like to send Peter exclusively  we cannot compete on price but I believe the workmanship speaks for itself and to the right customers it is well worth the extra hours spent...

if an engine like this goes out it must be properly built at higher than factory spec :)

I agree, and I think anyone who reads this thread needs to understand, when Peter does valve clearances, it's not just wham bam thank you maam. He doesn't just fit the shims that are in tolerance. He makes sure they are all roughly the same and not too tight, not too loose. We all know what will happen when a shim is too tight... Just read my first engine rebuild, dropping valves is not fun.

You get what you pay for and I know you said you cannot compete with price in regards to how much other shops charge for valve clearances, but I do know that no one else can compete with the level of professionalism. I would know, I have been to them all, and it cost me a lot of money due to their lack of "professionalism".

So I say to anyone out there wanting to do valve clearances... is it worth spending a little extra making sure its done right, or would you like to follow my path and spend a whole lot more when it's not done right and may potentially cost you an engine rebuild.

None the less, I am really excited to fire her up. If we were driving her NA, she will definitely fire up this weekend, but because we are fitting the SuperCharger, we might be delayed due to finalizing the plumbing. So I really hope we have all we need to get her up and running come sunday.

Obviously, I shall document and release Part 3 of the rebuild next week.

Once you guys are all done could you please pack Peter into a box and send him my side. :)

As you may have gleamed from the videos I am rather well and generously proportioned (fat) so a box may well not be suitable.

I possibly have someone. The guy who's deals with my cars at the dealer is retiring. Looks like he is going to be looking after the vintage car trade. Not sure if he wants to see BMW's anymore.

I have been there personally when Peter and Alex have done valve clearances!
What an experience :) it's the desire for perfection that impresses me. I love it.

Keep up the good work.

My S50B30 will be coming there soon....
