Thanks Philip I need to finalise a few things and likely following weekend you can bring yours in for me to re set clearances and at the same time steal your solenoid pack

Car is constantly over fuelling/running rich

Ya... about the car running RICH. I have just spoken to Matt, the previous owner about the software used to get rid off the error lights due to de-cat... and the plot thickens. Upon further investigation into this file that Matt Loaded to clear error lights, Matt told me that the file was still the file from Active Autowerke. So, it seems I still have Matt's Active Autowerke Supercharger file on the car, hence overfueling...

Not 100% sure, but if it is indeed the AA file, it's possible the car is tuned for a supercharger yet no supercharger is on the car. Facepalm

Just unplug the ecu, put it in the back of the cupboard before it gives you endless grief (ask burgy) and fit a Motec/Haltech or other high end system that will plug into all existing sensors + have a MAP sensor to measure the boost and fuel her correctly, just whatever you do don't buy a locally made ECU because they all are way too basic!

Hmmm... interesting. Looks very complicated tho.

And... I want to run an Alpha N tune... I'm guessing this AEM ECU can do pretty much everything.

That being said, I have a uni Q Dastek kit/system from my old supercharged 323i. Wasn't planning on using it on my M3, but what are the possibilities of getting Ross @ RBTS to tune the car with the uni Q if all else fails?

At the moment I will be using an Alpha N tune that Burgy has sourced for me. This is a very good Alpha N tune, as some of you will remember Alain's e46 M3 that had a custom supercharger kit installed by some shop in Durban. Long story Short -- The original guys that built the car, couldn't tune it to save their lives. THe car didn't run, idle surged, car was undrivable. Just did not work. Alain can confirm this. Burgy installed the Alpha N file that Project Shift sells and this car is now running smooth as butter and did 267wkw on a base map. It is running a small rotex charger, running a very restrictive 6psi, as the plumbing really needs to be redesigned. So I know the file works. But thanks for the input, I shall keep the options open.

Anyway, Gizmo... I'll come by some time and check out those cat foolers and pick your brain regarding these O2 sensors and Exhaust sensors and how to eradicate the errors.

Gizmo, after the endless k@k I had with my ecu, I have a supplier that can fix a 'locked' ecu, so in the event of this happening, we do have a solution

So... Update time.

This week we have a lot of things happening on Jezebel.

First, she is currently at Leonard (LZ) getting some cosmetic work done. Some of you may know Leonard as one of the most helpful fanatics on this forum. He has selflessly helped me on many occasions with my cars. Leonard helped me repair subframe boot failure on my e46 m3 last year and reinforced the rear very well. I thought that I should start a new thread with videos about what Leonard and his guys at Dent Doctor where able to do on my e46 in regards to repairing the cracks we found. I believe this will be important for all e46 M3 drivers and for those that are fearing subframe issues as well as boot floor issues. I strongly believe that the thread will help you guys. I've seen too many e46 M3 owners walk away from their loved cars because of the subframe issues these cars have. I believe this new thread will help you make an informed decision on how to spot a failure and or prevent/fix the subframe issue your e46 M3 may have.

So, due to the work that is being done at Dent Doctor, we are dropping the rear suspension and diff. I have acquired poly bushes from Moranor to replace all the old bushes that are currently sitting in the rear end. Peter will be helping me install them at his workplace, and we are also sending my diff in to get 3:91 gears installed and also service the current diff housing. New seals, oils etc.

From my understanding, the diff oil has never been changed on my M3, and after 143 000km, I think it's about time we started with some fresh gears and oil.

Pics to come...

Interesting that you face the same problems with the E46 Chassis and the connection of the back axle to the chassis....

How was it repaired?

How much did you spent for that?

After seeing the condition of some e46 M3's out there, who all will be needing the entire boot floor, and BMW's prices being so crazy, making the boot floor might be a good think for you Moranor.

Leonard told me yesterday there is another e46 M3 there at his shop for some other work, but the subframe is ripped too. The owner is not from this forum unfortunately.

I'm pretty sure, every e46 M3 out there has cracks. But no one is brave enough to actually look. Ignorance is bliss.

I have been giving this some thought and an under car brace to spread the force to other parts of the chassis maybe the best solution for this...

there is a local e46 here with a 10mm plate welded in the boot but that is alot of extra weight...

After having had a good look at Jezebel and the way the rear section has been torn one can clearly see that the "tear" starts on the driving wheel first and then spreads across the whole rear.

The longer one leaves it the more damage is caused when plates become buckled and distorted.

On this car Leonard is busy stripping all the body sealer from underneath to expose all the factory welds so that we can clearly see the total effect of the damage.

It is my opinion that we will be forced to replace some of the damaged panels as we will not be able to reintroduce the complex curves that are pressed by the factory.
In addition we will have to use reinforcing strips on the areas where welding takes place.

What will be paramount in all this will be a "welder" who knows what he is doing and has a feel for how much heat a panel will take before it is weakened.

As an aside if you drive an e46 M car I highly recommend that you get it up on a lift and examine the coil spring pads as well as the rear of the seat floor for stress cracks.
If you catch it soon enough the repair will be easy and inexpensive(relatively speaking).
(For those owners who launch their cars with extreme gusto consistently I am almost willing to underwrite that you have cracks)

We shall keep you updated as we make progress.
