Calypso, a valid statement, which is only applicable if the workshop that undertakes the modifications do not deliver value.

All this really puts one off modding cars.
Work couldn’t be completed on Saturday because two of the threads on the cylinder head were stripped due to the fact that the Vanos retaining bolts were over tightened by whoever assembled the motor. I used a new method of thread making by Wurth.
They re-used the old gasket, which is one of the reasons the Vanos was leaking. In trying to stop the oil leak they over tightened the bolts. Clearly they did not understand that was a bolt reaches its maximum torque it pulls its threads out.
Vanos unit installed. All cap screws torqued as per BMW specs.
Indentations caused by over tightening the banjo bolt due to oversized crushed copper washers being re-used.
These are the washers which came off the banjo bolt; notice the correct BMW size at the bottom.
Damaged oil return line. Burgy to the rescue with his oil return line, which is now on Crash’s car.
Valve body on. Note Burgy’s oil return line.
Liberal use of silicon sealer which is uncalled for. All sealer was cleaned off and the tappet cover gasket was applied with only six points of sealer.
Tappet cover going on, nuts being settled. Final tightening was done with a torque wrench to spec. No gloves this time, these parts all clean.
a1exander still battling with his focus. Clearly if this was an audition for him to impress Crash and establish a meaningful future in the film industry I respectfully submit that he has failed.
Tappet cover torqued.
Coil packs installed.
Finished at 19:30 which was too late to give the engine a proper wash, however I am led to believe that Crash was going to devote the rest of his night to detailing the engine bay. Of that I have absolutely no doubt.
Overall I was grateful for the confidence which Crash has shown in me. I trust that Jezebel will behave better in the future and that he shall enjoy driving her as much as I enjoyed working on her. In addition our thanks for his immense hospitality and live musical entertainment.
