Ok time for another update.
It's been a busy few days recently. Over the weekend, my brother-in-law and I took on the challenge of removing the engine and gearbox out of the Coupe. Damn - I think I spent more time unplugging sensors and switches than actually loosening bolts. There are wires everywhere! Thankfully it all went smoothly and after 5 hours the organs were out. We didn't break anything and also didn't have any serious injuries to show for our efforts.
Here's a pic of the motor removed. I haven't had a chance to clean it yet though.
Then on Sunday, even though I was a bit stiff, I decided to whip the motor out the corsa while I still had the engine crane on loan. This took me 4 hours on my own.
Then the past few days this week, I've just been doing some small bits and pieces on the Ute. I replaced the pollen filter which was quite dirty (I suspect this isn't changed regularly because it's a bit of a shlep to get there):
Then since I purchased the Ute, I've had a horrible creaking and groaning noise everytime I go over a speed bump. I traced the noise to the anti-roll bar bushes, but to date, I have not had the chance to change them. Getting in there to change them is a big mission, so I took advantage of the engine being out to allow for easier access to the top bolt of the bracket. Below are some pics showing how tight the access is. the only way to get in there is with a 10mm flat ring spanner [Thanks Paschal

It has taken many hours of driving around looking for the correct parts, and just as many hours sukkeling to fit the things. But I managed to get it all done this afternoon. Below is a pic of one of the worn bushes, and the bracket which holds it in place.
Just a note: My anti-roll bar is 21mm in diameter. For some reason, the bushes supplied by Goldwagen are only 16mm internal diameter, and the ones from GM with exactly the same part number are 18mm in diameter. Further research on my part revealed that the Astra G has a 20mm anti-roll bar bush, so this is probably the parts I would need for mine. Needless to say none of the GM dealers locally had the bushes in stock - they need to be ordered from the factory.
In the end, I went to visit my friends at Lopec, and scratched through their parts bin and found 2 replacements which appeared to be in better condition than mine. I greased them with copper grease and fitted them this afternoon. Initial testing seems to indicate that my creaking and groaning is cured!
Then the only other thing I did today was remove the rest of my stock exhaust system. Need to make place for the new 63mm system in a few weeks time
My Ute is booked in at Uncle Allen for next week. Let's hope the fitment of the Z20LET goes smoothly.
Other things I need to do before then are:
> Fit coupe gear lever and bowden cables.
> Run wiring for my gauges through the firewall.
> Change water bottle
> Investigate fuel supply options (I think I am going to go with a seperate surge tank, and an external pump.
That's all for now. Stay tuned as the updates will get better and better!
