Corsa C Ute - Another Toy Story

Just a quick update.

A few weeks ago, my Autometer Clock gauge busted itself. The adjuster knob disintegrated, and then it also wasn't keeping time. So I emailed Summit Racing them to find out what's what...

They replied the same day, apologised for the inconvenience, and said they were shipping me a replacement gauge the same day. And best part of all, I wouldn't have to pay a thing. Now that is what I call customer service (bear in mind this amounts to about R1000 odd) :bravo: :bravo:

I collected it today, had to pay a few rand for customs, and fitted it this afternoon, so now I can tell the time again.

So, recently I've been very busy being a dad :joy: , so haven't had much time to do anything else, lol.

What I did get done before the baby arrived was the following:

My amp under the passenger seat is exposed, and I've always wanted to make a false floor to cover it, and also to protect it (I tend to store stuff behind the seats often). So I got round to making one. Started off with a piece of 3mm hardboard, and once got it into the correct shape, I covered it in the same carpeting as I used on my sub box.

The exposed amp and wiring:

Then for our wedding anniversary, my wife got me this. Meet Boofle

So for shits and giggles, I decided to stick him in my Ute:

Other than that, I've just been monitoring my intake temps, but will collect some more data before publishing results.

That's all for now.

Just another quick update.

Last weekend I had a bit of free time, so I decided to try and tackle my octane booster stain from an unfortunate incident a few months ago. Long story short, tackled it using 2000grit water paper, some gentle elbow grease, followed by repeated polishes and then a wax to finish it off. I also took a couple of Brave Pills before I started :D

I am pretty happy with the results. See below:

It was actually some old DF Sport, or something. I won it as a prize on a ST breakfast run I went on with my mate.

Needless to say, they went bust, probably because the stuff didn't work, and it stains like a b@stard :thumbdo:

Right, time for another update.

I have been monitoring intake temperatures over the last few weeks, findings as follows:
> In easy driving through town, the intake temps average about 5-7deg C above ambient.
> The highest temperature recorded was 45deg C. This was a 3rd and 4th gear climb up a hill on the highway.
> What was interesting to note, was that sitting in peak traffic for long periods of time, where there was no airflow through the engine bay other than the cooling fan kicking in, the intake temps never went above 28deg C.

So that concludes that section of my testing. Going forward, I will move the sensor to where my cone filter sits, to see how the underbonnet temps vary. Basically to see what the motor is sucking in BEFORE the temperatures get affected by the hot turbo and other parts.

Then the long term plan - to build a heat shield and see if that makes a difference. I have no space to fit an airbox, so will need to fabricate my own :D (I've started on the template, but as time allows, I will progress on that).

Anyway, I've also been doing some research into something I have been wanting for a long time. And finally I found it - Hen's teeth:

Lol, jokes aside, I decided to spoil myself for my birthday, and got this:

This is a genuine Meriva OPC steering wheel. Now these are as scarce as hen's teeth, because from my research, it seems that Opel only made 300 Meriva OPCs. So I'd like to think I have a collector's item .

When it came to fitting, I had to buy a few extra bits locally, like the airbag and the slip ring (my Ute is the base version, so no luxuries, or safety items like ABS or airbags).

Here I had stripped off everything:

Slip ring fitted:

The steering wheel is similar in design to the standard wheel, but it is MUCH thicker, and obviously covered in high quality leather, with silver stitching.

Here's a pic of my old wheel for comparison:

Overall I'm happy that I did it :joy: There will be some other bits coming for the interior as well - that's for future updates...

Just another mini update - I had some other bits and pieces which needed fitting to my Ute. The standard dash has a tray-effort on top. I wanted to fit the computer binnacle, sans computer though. So I organised the necessary bits.

I had to sand down the vent holder to bare plastic in order to spray it properly (orignally silver, I painted it matt black). I sorted that out this afternoon. Then I just made a couple of blanking plates to block off some of the holes. See pic below:

Here's a pic of everything fitted:

Now I have place to store my sarmie for pad kos on the long road
