Climate control messing around

So, today, my climate control decides to bugger around, and it was pretty hot, fan speed indicator indicates what it should....but no blow.....Then tonight it's working fine again....anyone else had this issue? If so, what did it take to fix it? Besides a visit to the stealers....

Hi. What model BMW do you drive?

i learnt the hard way with the FSR,the most common cause of failure is that it sits in an air channel for the feet that allows it to disipate heat but with no airflow over the FSR it overheats and fails. As a rule of thumb place the air direction downwards to your feet as well as other directions needed so the FSR keeps cool and lasts longer.

i hope this makes sense...

Good luck, I have an E36 318 digital control with similar issues, I don't know whose climate it's controlling, but it's not mine! Comes and goes as it feels, aircon on with no fan, etc. Will be watching closely. GOOD LUCK.

Hi there. I came across a few of the faulty E36 318 Climate Control units. It exhibited the same symptoms as you are describing above. All of those units had the same problem. It had a few dry joints on the back of the Climate Control unit's PC board. If you have any soldering skills this should be an easy fix.:thumbs:

Just be aware that if you leave it too long it eventually flattens your car battery, as a faulty FSR causes the fan to come on while the car is switched off.

Hence, if you leave the car standing for a day or 2 and the battery goes flat, at least you know what caused it.

You can pull the fuse on the blower motor for now to prevent battery drain until you resolve it. Like msm mentioned. it will drain your battery as the blower will run even though the keys are nowhere close to the car :)

Nope, fan is off if the key is off.
