Chef's E39 530d

I have been watching way too much "Police Interceptors" and "Traffic Cops" from the UK on BBC.
they wouldn't have much tolerance for this over there.

although we in SA are in a totally different boat altogether, and due to a lack of any form of public transport system, more and more people are forced to drive way beyond their ability and age.

accidents are called that, because they are caused by accident, not by intent, but there comes a point where ,if one is not capable of a simple task such as parking a car at "shuffling" speed, maybe one should re-evaluate the need to still be driving a motorvehicle....because unlike what Moose says
it's not like she hit and run or something.
, if Chef wasn't there to witness it, she could easily have done it....one never knows, the news reports are littered with incidents of minor parking lot rash, and no-one around anymore to take accountability, and all it does is hike our premiums.

Chef should just follow thru with all the normal and legal items, of reporting this, to the authorities and insurance.
as for going easy on the old lady.....no no, it should follow the normal course.
Maybe she will upon reflection decide to re-evaluate her driving ability.

My ex "father-in law" (RIP) and garden cottage tenant, for whom I purchased the E28-520i a while ago, also bumped it within the first month against a brick wall at our local Spar, but he needed to be mobile (SBK Amputee), he knew his limitations, and would only drive in the mid-morning when traffic was at it lightest and parking was wide open at the Spar, but circumstances in SA forced him to still drive, although against my inner gut-feeling, he shouldn't have been driving...but what else could I do, in this 3rd world country of ours

Some valid points coming from which ever way one looks at it.

I now need to find time to get the 5er in for quotes. It may need to wait until next month.

sorry to hear Chef, that might buff out, but wont be 100%. I also say follow the usual procedure, insurance is there for a reason and the lady has it for this specific reason.

Well it turns out she's not actually insured (thanks Tris; rep coming your way).

My excess for the claim will be 4500 so if the repair is anything less than that there's no point in claiming. I've got a feeling I will be fixing this one myself. Also. I don't think I will be contacting the ou vrou again.

Can't bring myself to tell her to pay for it.

Will sort it out when I've got some spare cash.

I think this is the best way. Always treat people the way you would like to be treated. In this case if this were to happen to my mom when she is at that age I would also prefer someone going easy on her.

This is always the case :=):

I would take the bumper off and have a look at the stiffener to make sure it is not damaged... if that is good just polish the paint off for now and respray when you can

You know something that life has taught me... Your attitude defines who you are, let is slide man, you will be rewarded back some way or another.

The right thing to do is to just fix the car yourself. :coolShake:

I have seen far too many people go ballistic over minor things in life..

I may need a detailer's assistance with the balance of that wretched scrape. Needs a touch of magic.

Who can I take it to?

Hey Tris, what's the value of Chef's bumpercar? :roflol:

:bat:

It's really not that bad, but I fully understand how you treasure your car, and how painful it is when someone else dings your car. Look what my darling wife did to mine. Been driving around like that for 2 months now, but in a few weeks she's going to the panelbeaters (the car, not the wife). What can you do? Life happens. Meals-on-wheels will shine bright again Chef.
