BMW Pirate parts in my car?

Hey guys,

I have a bit of a weird one here...

Car is in with BMW Cresta. Service agent calls to say they found a "pirate" air filter on my vehicle. What gives?

The car is still under MP, and has only been serviced with the agents between CEDAR / JSN and Cresta in JHB.

Not sure how badly to soil myself at this point.

How do cars pass inspection?

did it go argg when they opened it up?

my guess is maybe some dealer did not have the part in stock so quickly got one from a spares shop...

Well, I would hold the last agent responsible if there are any repercussions. They cannot hold you responsible for something some one else did. And it's not like you check everything the previous dealer did? :dunno:

LOL...
No, It asked for bottle of rum...

It grinds my nut that people do this. I didn't even know there are pirate parts...I know there's aftermarket stuff, but seriously, pirate parts?

Or is it a case of made by the same manufacturer, just not BMW stamped with a 5000% markup?

Go and get the "aaaargh" filter from them and keep it.

If they should challenge you at a later stage, you can prove that "aaargh" filters will stand up to factory spec.

They are full of it, ask them if they make their own filters in their very own factory and to prove that it's not a GUD or Hengst filter with a BMW sticker on it......

Odds are 99.9999999% what is in there the "arrrgh" filter is sold somwhere in some market with a BMW sticker on it

I still don't get this whole "pirate" part label from stealerships. At one stage, it used to refer to cheap, knock-off replacement items - nowadays, most BMW dealers will refer to anything without a BMW label on it as "pirate", even if it's a good quality aftermarket part, superior to OEM.

Ask them what they mean by a pirate filter. If it is a GUD or FRAM filter call bs as those filters are OEM. Unless it isn't stamped with BMW and marked up. Do, however, find out when the air filter was changed and what dealership.
