I haven’t responded to avoid thread derail.

If I was you I would also consider speaking to Freddy from fast developments at zwartkops as he has build many successful race cars that are top contenders.

S54:  149kg
S63Tu : 229kg

Thanks for the numbers I was looking at the wrong motor, you also get an long block S54 that weights 217kg ?

Looking at these numbers and considering more cooling and plumbing, exhaust one can confidently say the S63tu will weigh 100kg more than the S54 that's allot of weight

1000's of things going through my head now! I just don't want to start off with the wrong formula from the start!

Maybe the mods should change the thread to BMW i8 Race car Build and move it

The M5 I'm looking for isn't relavant as it has an LS motor in

You only get one type of S54 engine

Short block refers to the bottom half of the engine. Meaning the block itself with all rotating assembly installed. Those being rods, pistons, crankshaft, rings etc, sans the cylinder head.

The long block is the above mentioned but with the cylinder head, camshafts, valves, vanos and some ancillaries like water pump installed.

Neither setup includes fuel system and electronics

This is one of the fastest cars in SA and its an self built car, compact light car with an V6 Turbo fitted in the back
Zwastkops 1:01.8
Simola Hillclimb 40.9s
ESF Hillclimb 34.999s

Charl Joubert has the same formula and ran a 39.5 in 2018 Simola Hillclimb

One of the fastest cars in SA?? Compared to what? It finished 6th at the hillclimb and you cannot tell me that all the fastest cars in SA competed in that hillclimb.

If money is not an issue look at Judd engines

Here is their v10 it’s 3 kg lighter than a s54. It has 800hp on the flywheel and it’s NA and revs up to 10000rpm

Engine Probably costs the same as a m3 csl

Check our this v8 version in an e82 sadly this car crashed and the driver died

Pops, crackles and bangs are nice on the FI cars, but this NA f1 sound is pure ear porn. Damn that sounds sooooooo good

Hi.

I haven’t read all the opinions, but if you want a quality, reliable build there is I guy I would recommend and that is Freddy Pretorius from Fast Developments.

He built or was involved with about 4 or 5 cars in the top 10 of the Emerald Speed Fest. He builds and runs GTC cars, built many of the Production Race Cars, and has about 8 cars that he has either built or runs in the BMW Race Series.
He also works very closely with Martin from MoTec.

If you want his details please private message me and I will hook you up with him.

I second this guy as I mentioned earlier.

Remember this car is still road legal, I'm saying one of the fastest road legal cars in SA not comparing it to an F1 car

Excuse me as a bit of a Johnny come lately. This would be an awesome build but there are some major concerns I have and please dont take them as an insult or anything as I dont know you or your experience.

- If done properly, for a million rand it will only be half done. Thats a small budget for the level of car you require. A proper sequential gearbox will cost you around R400k alone, never mind proper suspension and brakes. To build my race car for example now from scratch you looking at over 1million and mine is pretty basic although it does have motec and most of the "proper" bits and pieces fitted to it.
- The second issue is why 1000hp? Do you realise the cost of running something like that? On my little E46 with around 700hp, that runs 3's now with me, a middle aged fat guy who is an average driver, on Zwartkops you looking at R20k per race day on tyres alone, never mind the back up crew who have to go through the car after every race, the prep work, fuel, stuff that break etc etc. I also could never have driven it competitively 5 years ago. One of the biggest things I see in club type racing is everyone chases power and yet they are not using their cars to their full potential. I never forget racing a guy in his Lambo Super Trefeo. He was driving like an absolute idiot. Useless racing lines and all over the track. He would pull away from me on the straights due to his extra power and out brake me on fast corners. When I passed him on the inside of a corner i left him far behind. he was running at least 3 seconds a lap slower. His car cost him 4 million Rand but he copuldnt drive it to 50% of its potential.
- but the biggest concern is have you much experience with driving race cars or something like that? Like I said I am not assuming you do or dont so please not insulting you. You need a lot of racing experience to race something like that properly, otherwise it is going to cost you huge. I know people that spend millions on supercars built to for example GT4 spec, and have all the right race kit and look like professional drivers and yet they are much much slower than People in lessor cars around a track, with my SA built BMW M3, which costs a third of their cars and I am a pretty average to useless driver.

Like I said, no assumptions or insults just some things to think about.

PS. Freddie is the best for a project like this. he does everything on my race car also.
Thanks for the input

Allot has change since "let's fit a big motor into an electric car"

I agree with allot that you say and have seen this first hand overkill cars not been driven properly..

I drove an built Nissan gtr with over a 1000hp at the wheels and power isn't nothing if you can't use it..

AND yes R1m doesn't go far on a built like this we going to use an smaller 4 cylinder motor

I had an long chat with Sav about all this and almost bought The Judge which is more or less the same car that you have, he also raised a few issue like long term development of aero and setup
