I was able to get some photos tonight. The pieces of the mold bolt together and hang on a mechanism that allows you to rotate the entire piece.

He measured the car evey 1mm in longitude and latitude and ended up having a 3D rendition made from this. Two years later and he's got a beautiful full scale plug to pull a body from. He's already built the chassis etc.
