I have been looking into possible donor cars and the Z3 is not cheap (around R80 000). I know that I can get a E36 for under R30k and an E46 similar if you look long enough. It only has to be mechanically sound.
The 507 car body has the following measurements:
Wheelbase: 2479mm
front track: 1441mm
rear track: 1422mm
The Z3 I'd like to use is very similar
Wheelbase: 2446mm
front track: 1412mm
rear track: 1430mm
But seeing as they are so expensive, I was thinking of using a more available E36
Wheelbase: 1700mm
front track: 1422mm
rear track: 1444mm
The E46 has very similar dimensions to the E36.
Would the z3 work without modifying the chassis? If you have to cut up the chassis it will be cheaper to go the E36 route, the work load would be very similar or perhaps just building a chassis from scratch.
PhoenixGG said:@Nic_S There are no stupid questions... you might have thought about something I was too dof to think about.
I am going to speak to the guys that do the Austin Healey replicas. They aren't too far from me. I just need to find some time to head through. The only reason I have been leaning toward the donor BMW is that then it should have a working engine, suspension, drive train etc. But it is not necessarily the best option. Seeing as I haven't done this before I am open to any and all suggestions.

I need to give a shout out to Roger. He gave me an awesome lead on the project. Check out a New Zealander who did the impossible. Sadly his taste in cars isn't perfect, but he had vision.

PhoenixGG said:Does anybody have an idea about the size of the cars wheels? I found a website stating that the car used 6.00-16 wheels. This I know is a tractor tire size, but if I am not mistaken its a 27" tire. Which sounds way too big. Or am reading this incorrect and its a 16" wheel?
