So it's a replica? Please tell us more and post some pics of the build. 98% of this forum dont know what a 507 is, time to school them.

Hey guys,

Just thought I'd share. I bought the mold that was listed for sale here and had a body made. I still have lots of work to do but I think the body came out really good and I'm pretty excited about it. It's sitting on top of a cobra replica chassis that I'm thinking of using, but will have to lengthen by 6". Let me know what you think.

Hi, Has there been any further progress on this build?  I am looking to secure a fiberglass BMW 507 body or use of the molds.  Through my research I am aware of two potential sets of molds In existence, this one and one in Northern California that had a body built at a shop in Sacramento.  The person in California was wanting to use an BMW M30 as the base.  I think a C4 Corvette is a better match with identical wheelbase and body on frame construction.  Please reply or PM me.  As my only other option is to 3D print or CNC mill from a 3D model, I would be willing to pay handsomely for a quality body layup or use of the molds.  Thanks, Chris

I have not received a PM from tvellrath85 so I just emailed him.  Hopeful his email address is still active and he replies.  You’ll have to significantly shorten a 502 chassis to fit a 507 body.  502 wheelbases range from 112-115 inches vs. 97.6 for the 507.  If you have a 502 chassis it is very valuable.  You’d be better off having a custom tube chassis built for a 507 replica.

This is helpful. I potentially have access to an almost complete 502 so was thinking it may be easier to go with a modified original chassis rather than build an entire new one. Chassis modification doesn't scare me but would need to either source or build a body. Would also have to look into how/where to source parts such as glass trim etc, unless had to make that as well. I'm assuming there would be a heap of parts such as gauges etc that could be reused.
The other option is to just restore the 502.

The 502 I have in mind has been driven on salted roads and then parked up. Haven't done a full diagnosis but looks like all of the sills and bases of the pillars are roached as are all of the lower sections of the hanging panels. We could fix this but it may be more than the value of the car to do it properly. The present owner isn't interested in a body off restoration and may either junk or part out the car. This is where the idea of a 507 was born as all of the mechanicals and some of the trim are period correct and in essence you are halfway there on a replica just by chopping the body.

Have you heard anything yet from tvellrath85 about his BMW 507-replica project?

Project is coming along with Z4 chassis. I am in Sacramento and I would enjoy community input. [email protected]

So will this 507 body kit fit on a Z3?
I’ve been trying to decide between a 507 on a Z3 or a Z8 body on a Z4 for a project.
Hoping to learn more from this and other forums, any input is welcome.

Do you have a z8 body? If not where will you find one? And why destroy a collectible car to make a replica collectible car?
