Blueprints: http://www.the-blueprints.com/vectordrawings/show/4769/bmw_507/

You have to buy it though, so not sure what you actually get and how much detail there really is. Could be everything one needs :dunno:

Credit goes to Coisman for finding the site.

I already found a free copy of that. Its not really the blue prints, just what you see in that pic. Photos are better. When I finally get back to CT and civilization I will see where I am with this project. Can't do much at Gariep dam.

Hello, I am new to the forum but found it interesting. I have been working on my bmw 507 replica for about 1 year now. You are getting advise that is spot on. Z3 is out. I am using a donor car just to form the body on. However once everything is scaled to match I will be building a tube chassis from tubing very much just like BMW did. I am running the M30 six with webbers and a header. Power to weight will be higher than a stock 507. The sound is very nice but not a v8. I am working on the side on a v/12 with carbs. If I can get it to run properly I will use it. The vs %40 engine is just too modern., oth in terms of electronic tomake it work plus looks. I have seen one with throttle bodys installed and looks more vintage but the v/12 can be made to look sooo much better and the sound is awesome. The body is actally not bad. The time is in the details. I will have as much time in the side louver on the fenders and the front grills as I will on the whole front body. The windscreen is the first and to me the most important part. I have drawings of a bunch of donors and founsd one that is very close for me. I have 1000 photos of almost every part that you might want to see. I have thought of putting them on a cd just to share. IM me if you would like to see any. The first thing is to buy the BMW book Profiles 507. Tons of photos and enought to get you started. Usa they bring 50 dollars or so. I have seen them sell for much more. This has been a fun project so far and most of the fn has been looking for parts that can be used . Volvo p1800 tailights for examole. The one thing i have not found is door handles. Outside. They are the same as BMW 700 but bring 4-500 dollars. too much for that one item . (unless the car turns out so nice it needs them. Good luck

Hi All. I build scratch built cars and my next project is a BM 507. I would be interested in talking to anyone doing the same.

I will when I get going. Building two other cars at the moment, but looking to start this build shortly.

Anyone building a 507 replica should google Elvis bmw 507 rebuild. There are great pics of the body deconstruction. There are also pics of Elvis in the car. His car was white but he changed it to red because women kept writing their phone numbers on the car with lipstick.

Hello gang,
I am a new member but I hope that I have found the right people to help out.
A buddy of mine who recently passed on was a huge BMW enthusiast. Among his many projects he was able to complete an entire 1959 507 Roadster body mold. I am hopeful that I can find a new home for something he worked so hard on and help his loved ones that he left behind.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was able to get some photos tonight. The pieces of the mold bolt together and hang on a mechanism that allows you to rotate the entire piece.

Hey guys,

Just thought I'd share. I bought the mold that was listed for sale here and had a body made. I still have lots of work to do but I think the body came out really good and I'm pretty excited about it. It's sitting on top of a cobra replica chassis that I'm thinking of using, but will have to lengthen by 6". Let me know what you think.

There's a guy in PE who was faced with a similar problem as he wanted to build a Lola replica. He ended up making a jig and fitted a 1:18 Diecast scale model in the jig. He measured the car evey 1mm in longitude and latitude and ended up having a 3D rendition made from this. Two years later and he's got a beautiful full scale plug to pull a body from. He's already built the chassis etc.

Where these's a will, there's a way.....:bravo:

are you sure you aren't thinking about this vehicle?

We had it in our showroom recently and this was the story behind this Sauber C9

You need some serious serious SERIOUS courage to take on this project..
Hats of to you guys..
For me the 507 is right up there with the Ferrari 275 , the absolute pinnacle of a pure classic.
