Blue Teeth

Hey Guys... There is a lot of chatter on the american e46 site ( e46 fanatics )
about guys installing tge bluetooth module in the car and then having hands free comms.

But as i understand it there is a major difference between the US spec cars and the European spec cars we drive.

According to a Wiki search, all e46's with build date after 03/2003 are pre-wired for bluetooth.
My build date is 09/2003 on a FL e46.

I am keen to find out what it would take to get it up and running. My steering wheel controls have the little " guy talking " symbol... or bad breath symbol as some of the yanks call it :) and the R/T button.
Anybody looked into it or done it.

Look forward to your input

The Stiffmeister could use a free hand when on the road :) :mmm: :pimp:

Hey Spy... have you had a browse on e46fanatics.com ? They have loads on info and DIY's but they are very quick to mention that the info is for US Spec cars.
I have seen complete DIY's from under $100 incl parts.

As i understand it, there is a connector under the rear ashtray which is the antennae plug. The Module goes in the boot ( under boot lining ontop of wheel well )

I am rather keen to see what this would cost to implement. If it is true ( and i am sure Wiki would not lie ) then our cars are pre-wired for BT. All we should need is a module and a pair button.

Lets hope some of the other fanatics have a clever idea for us  :)

By the way... Spy... have you contacted a dealer about this by any chance ?

By the rear view mirror you say... is it obvious or hidden ? If we have the Mic in our cars ( and we should being pre wired as stated ) then it should be as easy as a module !?

And what the hell is that piece of plastic in the center of our car roof, where the light used to be in old cars ?? I assume it has somethng to do with the climate control ??? sorry lol.. thought i would ask now that i remembered :)

According to the e46 manual... it says that the Mic is located in the head liner near the roof light with a cover over it !? Gonna have to go have a look when i get home...

I have a Garmin with built in blue teeth. Works fine for me at the moment. Maybe I lost the urge to rip my dash up for the umpteenth time... :mmm:

Hellas... It should not require any tearing up of dashboard. Thats what im trying to clarify and possibly confirm. Accroding to Wiki and most sources, all e46's with build date after 03/2003 are pre-wired for Bluetooth

This should then only require the module to be plugged in ( boot area under carpet, above wheel well LHS i believe )
It appears as if there is a connector for the antenae under the rear ashtry (remove ashtray as if cleaning and scratch around for a plug wrapped in foam - think it was a blue plug )

Hoping that someone in SA has done this mod... would be nice to have the original equipment up and running. Unfortunately all the DIY's i find are related to US spec cars.

But yes... GPS with bluetooth is a good solution.
