Are all drivers ignorant to road signs and law?

This morning I drive up Wessels Rd. in Rivonia and I stop at the 3 way stop. This lady with her Disco comes to stop and I get ready to pull away and she cuts right in front of me without even slowing down. The worst of all, she's got 2 small kids in the back.

There is no courtesy on the roads anymore. Where will it end?

in general the drivers today are terrible to say the least. i think it reflects on the type of people they are. those that ignore 4way stops and do what this woman did are probably the people that put themselves first above everyone else in life. they do not care who gets hurt or affected by their actions as long as they themselves are not put out. this woman is a typical example of one of those people.

on my route to work I go through 3 traffic circles and same story, people approach the circle and do not slow down at all, just fly through, dont let you in when its your turn... :thumbdo:

On my route to work there is this robot with a lane right on the left that you can turn even if the light is red. It has a sign and everything to show you can turn. (I think in afrikaans it's called a "Toegee baan"??) Anyway, often you get people stopping as the light is red for the traffic going straight even though there is a sign and it's painted on the road. That's not the annoying bit though. When this happens I'm usually like 3 cars behind the person who stopped so hooting won't mean anything to them... but the idiot behind me thinks it will :shakehead: How is the guy like 4 cars in front going to know you're hooting at him??

This morning though, something new. The bantam in front stops as there are cars coming. He then waits and lets a person cross the road before he starts off. Nothing wrong with anything the bantam has done, but the guy in the Merc SL behind him starts hooting and flashing his lights. What as A-hole :shakehead:

And we even have one professed stop street skipper I know of right here on the forum.

You get people that become oblivious of their surroundings when behind the steering of a vehicle, and this is not a new thing at all, in all the years I have been driving (Sh!t it's more than most of your ages :=): ), it has been prevalent.

This is how I see it, these kind of drivers have always been on the roads, all that is happening is that as the population grows, you have more of them on the roads (Every flippin taxi driver is one as well), and thus have become more noticeable.

The best is defensive driving, you must always be thinking for the other road users, If you look nicely you can spot these kind of Drivers on the roads even before you get to them, or they get to you, and make an evaluation as to any sh!t moves they can make, so if this happens, you already have a plan of action worked out.

@SP33DVY Yes she antagonized you by her driving and in a state of anger you chased after her, picked up your phone to take photos of her vehicle and while driving with one hand, concentrating on the camera view on the phone to get an accurate picture or two, and in this time your attention was also not fully on the road and also causing a possible dangerous situation, so for awhile there were you not the same as the person you were chasing after. (Somewhere on another forum there could be someone talking about the inconsiderate BMW Driver that was taking pictures with his phone while driving)

Yep, defensive driving is the best way! Being able to read the traffic makes getting through this so much easier and less frustrating, safer too.

No need to chase, it was in rush hour. She almost took me out just to queue in front of me. I actually stopped to wait in the queue and took the pictures. That's what grates me even more. Jump a STOP to get to the long queue quicker! Hurry up and wait. For what? I just had enough. A taxi almost side swiping me a couple weeks ago. People hooting at you because you stop at a flashing red traffic light. Sh!t like that. WTF is the world coming to?

Its because there is lack of proper policing by the traffic departments because they have become obsessed with the motorist as cash cows with their entrapment. So basically they are all sitting at speed traps while the suburbs have become lawless. I have it all the time, in my home neighbourhood I have to almost stop at intersections where there is no stop sign for me because stop signs seems to have become "GO" signs. I had a prick in a Honda Civic hoot and swear at me because he was behind me and I STOP at stop signs. It was only after I explained to him that he will need a very good surgeon to remove the hooter from his ahole that he took off in another direction.

Looking at it the wrong way. If people stick to the rules and made at least some effort, little to no policing is needed. Roads can't be made safer by having more police as they can only do something after an incident like write a ticket. The real problem is the people using the roads. People have less and less respect for their vehicles everyday. They get so used to the idea of driving that the idea of a big 2 ton fast moving steel box as being potentially dangerous doesn't even register. It's why I believe kids should learn more about cars and roads and the potential dangers in school.
